Thread: Magma news

Still having a hard time coming to grips with the loss of Phillip Bussonnet, since Jimmi Top simply cannot yet handle the technical challenges of Zombies. Plus, it sounds pretty clipped. Still, happy to see this, and I think the additional singers are a real plus.

As much as I love Magma, the drums are almost always a bit underwhelming production wise

They need a real studio engineer for once. Francis Linon can handle live mixing but none of the albums he mixed sound decent.

^ Interesting. What material have they played in 2020? (I assume it can't be a great number of concerts available) And has it only been the new band stuff?
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

IIRC: the abridged version of the TH trilogy, Zombies, and maybe Troller Tanz.

I hear you. I just love Phillippe's playing. And his tone is magnificent. Very difficult to replace. I'm glad they are continuing on, but it's not quite the same for me. It almost seems miraculous, at this point, that they did multiple North American tours. I'm very grateful, that I got to see as many live shows, as I did.

Indeed. I can stand Hervé's voice nowadays, but that rhythm section was so integral to Magma's sound, and anything below the standard Bubu had set is just sad, really.

I had some free time a while ago and learnt Köhntarkösz Pt. 1 on bass and guitar. The bass solo was messy and bad because I was somewhat tipsy, but maybe some of you'll dig this.

For some reason it eluded me until now, but Bourges 1979 is incredibly good. My favorite live Magma track has always been "Kohntark" from Live Hhai - best version of this epic. However, I've listened to the version of "The Last Seven Minutes" from Bourges and I am utterly blown away by this performance. It is nonstop energy from beginning to end with everyone giving everything. Just amazing.

Finally got my next Magma studio-album. After Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh, I got Köhntarkösz.
Now thinking about what to get next:
    Kobaia
    Udu Wudu
    Attahk
    Merci

I would go for Udu Wudu next, then Attahk.

If you have 1001 Degrees Centigrade, Kobaia is in a fairly similar style.

Udu Wudu through Merci is adding increasing R&B and soul influences and eventually some English and French lyrics. I like Attahk the best of the three but it might just be the order I heard them. Udu Wudu has "De Futura" which is one of the most essential pieces, although you already have live versions.

Either that or there's a phrase in Kobaïan that sounds exactly like "Ooh, ooh baby". Actually, I like Merci a lot. Side two of the album, in particular, is quite excellent.

I think it's a good album. I even like the stuff on side one that we're not supposed to like

I mean, it's not a classic or anything. But it has its charms.

Can you find K.A or Ëmëhntëhtt-Ré? I'd go straight for either of those.
