My list would seem to indicate I like my guitar solos short and sweet - apart from the last one!

    Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day
The Only Ones - Another Girl, Another Planet
    ELO - Mr Blue Sky
    The Beatles - Something
Queen - Don't Stop Me Now
The Cars - Just What I Needed

Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall Part II
    Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street
    UFO - Rock Bottom (Live)

  5. #5
Mick Box/Ken Hensley: Circle Of Hands (I think Mick plays the first bit, then Ken does the slide on the ride out)
Dickey Betts: Live At Fillmore East version of Whipping Post (it's the second solo, in case you don't know)
Jerry Garcia: Weirdness (the long improv that followed He's Gone on 17 October 1974)
Jerry Garcia: 18 October 74 version of Morning Dew
Jimi Hendrix: feedback intro on the Monterey Pop version of Wild Thing
David Gilmour: Comfortably Numb (both of 'em)
Frank Zappa: Watermelon In Easter Hay (hands down, Frank's finest guitaristic moment)
    Jeff Beck: Where Were You
Pete Townshend: I Can See For Miles (yes, I mean the studio version, with the single tremolo picked note)
Dr. Brian May: The Millionaire's Waltz (does it still count as a "solo" when it consists of 18 overdubbed guitar harmonies?)

one of my absolute favorites that instantly pops in my head is this one

This is just an all around great guitar song - the wah pedal intro, the strummy rhythm but the goods get delivered right around 4:17, then it fades out and you scratch your head in bewilderment begging for more.
One day a couple weeks ago I was driving to work and heard King Of The World on satellite radio followed by this one -

Jesus what a great start to the day that was.

I could easily list a dozen more from each of these guys

    Hendrix - Machine Gun
    Fripp - Sailors tale (Eartbound)
    Zappa - Inca Roads
    Zappa - Rat Tomago
    Holdsworth - Atavachron

Sorting through my brain comes up a bit of a muddle, but I will offer one that bubbled to the top immediately:

    Pink Floyd - "Time"

One of the best solos laid to tape, IMO. The guitar weeps.
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world.
