Thank You Scientist and Coheed & Cambria on tour together

    Hi kids;

For those that dig one or the other of these bands, Thank You Scientist is opening for Coheed and Cambria on their upcoming tour. Fair number of dates, too...the schedule is here:

    http://www.thankyouscientist.net/

I might try and catch the show at the Fillmore in Silver Spring...not the biggest C&C fan (don't really know much of their stuff, but know their reputation), but it might still be fun.

Anyway, just passing the good word along...
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

If I am unable to go to see Thank You Scientist and 3rdegree in July, I'll probably attend one of the Philly / NYC area shows. I'm not the biggest C&C fan either, but they're playing In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3 in full, and that's a darn awesome album.

Very cool. TYC are a band that deserves this opportunity.

They'll be here in Atlanta in OCT....long way off. I've never seen C&C and don't really know THAT much about them but have always liked what I've heard.

Hmmm. A two hour drive for me to Lake Buena Vista. I do like C&C. I have a couple of their CDs. Maybe if I can drag a friend along.

I have tried to get into them (purchased 2 albums), but for some reason they have not clicked with me. They have everything that I normally like, great musicianship, lyrics and are for all practical purposes prog, but I found it difficult to get into either album. I find the vocalist to be a bit harsh on my ears, and maybe I just don’t have the time to put into diving into the whole complicated concept of their story.

There is a guy who works in my department that is totally into them though. He is in his mid-20’s and totally gets into the whole concept of what C & C do, since all of their albums tell a kind of science fiction concept story. He and his buddies study and dissect the lyrics and know the whole story (basically the same thing I did with prog rock back when I was his age). Anyway, just the fact that a band like Coheed exists and is popular gives me hope for the prog future.

Great to see these guys getting this shot. Saw C&C open for some metal show a few years back. I was there for the headliner but there were a lot of younger folk around me who were there specifically for them. They were okay but not my cup of tea. Probably about a year later they were on some late night talk show. The lead singer was playing a Theremin and it probably would have been better if everyone watching was high at the time. LOL

That's on a Tuesday. One of the nights i could actually catch a show. Haven't yet been to the Fillmore-usually shy away from the beltway travel with all the idiots on the road. Who knows? maybe I'll meet my avatar twin. ;-)

I don't look like that in person...more facial hair

Fillmore is a nice enough venue, with lots of nearby parking decks (definitely a plus in/around the beltway). I think there might even be a metro stop reasonably close. There's also a nice downstairs lounge with comfy seating and monitors of the show...so if C&C doesn't light my world afire I can happy head downstairs, chillax and enjoy their set in relative comfort

I know nothing about Coheed & Cambria, except that they are pretty successful. Sounds like a great opportunity for TYS, I hope they gain a ton of new fans.

There's a metro stop 3 blocks away. Silver Spring metro. Very convenient if you don't want to drive.

And there is tons of free parking after 7:00 pm.

Octorber 1st, Toronto. Noted. I had no idea that C & C had been around that long, as the album they are playing is from 2003. I don't know much about them, either, but I would love to see TYS. What a great opportunity for them.

I'm a huge TYS fan. I am NOT a fan of Coheed at all. Looks like I could be one of those annoying hipster-types who goes to to a show just to see the opening act.

Oh, and I'm fully aware of the excellent opportunity this gives TYS and I couldn't possibly be happier for them. They will blow C&C away IMO.

Never heard TYS before last night on Letterman. Very cool sound. I think they will be a good match with C&C of which I am a big fan. Would love to see this show but alas....

    Regards,
    Jon

I always seem to be in the minority on this, but IMO almost every song on C & C's The Black Rainbow kicks ass.

I actually haven't heard this one yet, even though a friend was kind enough to rip me a copy. Will have to see if I can dig it up or check it out on YouTube tomorrow.

I also know almost nothing about the storyline of the entire Armory Wars series, despite liking most of what I've heard of it

My bad. Battema, sorry for getting you so excited. I am easily confused. It was still a very cool band on Letterman but I guess I still haven't heard TYS.

Another fan here of Black Rainbow. Excellent disc.

    Regards,
    Jon
