PFM to play in Chicago 4/6

    PFM (PREMIATA FORNERIA MARCONI)
Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM) (translation: Award-winning Marconi Bakery) is an Italian progressive rockband. They were the first Italian group to have success abroad, entering both the British and American charts. Between 1973 and 1977 they released five albums with English lyrics. They also had several successful Europeanand American tours, playing at the popular Reading Festival in England and on a very popular national television programme in the U.S.A.

PFM introduced new sounds, such as the synthesizer, to the Italian musical world. They were also among the first to combine symphonic classical and traditional Italian musical influences in a rock music context. Such innovations and their longevity have made them among the most important bands in the international Progressive rock genre.

^Oh I guess that makes sense. I was wondering why a band of PFM's stature would only play one show. I'm sure they wouldn't fly to Chicago just to buy cannolis.

I know the club's owner is a giant fan of all things Genesis/ELP/Yes. But the logistics for this show is a head scratcher.

I drove to the club yesterday, bought a ticket, and tracked down the club owner. He said his costs weren't too prohibitive, as PFM will be in Mexico performing at Bajafest on 4/3, so his only cost is flying them to Chicago and then on to Miami. With a solid turnout, his ticket pricing will make the gig worthwhile. The club holds 400, but he is limiting the tickets to 330 to allow enough space for everyone. In any case, this is a feather in his cap for him and his club, and I tip my hat to him for getting PFM to perform in Chicago.

Hey guys, Kevin here. I booked PFM. I work for Reggies AND The Arcada Theatre. There will be some REALLY BIG Prog shows this year I can promise you.

Robby is a HUGE Prog fan, so that's why I'm booking a lot of Prog in Reggies as well as Arcada

Health & weather permitting, the ancients plan on venturing down. Dale has guaranteed that if we show up, we'll get in.

I am thinking about attending this and do a weekend thing out of it since Riot and Grim Reaper play the same venue that weekend. Is the area safe to stay in a hotel around there, and if so which hotel?

    Thanks in advance.

The one closest is the Hyatt at MCormickPlace, a short walk away. Depending on the tradeshow schedule, that one may not be available.
Anything north of the club, towards downtown, should also be okay. I'll do some research and post later.

    Hi Ken,

    Thanks for the info.

I just checked prices and the Hyatt at MCormickPlace is a little more than I would like to pay. Maybe their rates are higher since there is a tradeshow that you mentioned. I appreciate your input and looking forward to any info you can provide.
