    Nighttime music

What songs would you consider "late night, in the dark/dim light with headphones" tracks? My (incomplete) picks:

-Low Spark of High Heeled Boys
    -Tubular Bells/ Hergest Ridge
    -Josie (Steely Dan)
-Electric Relaxation (A Tribe Called Quest)

Crazy, I've always thought you can't get any more 'beautiful morning' music than those. I don't think I've ever listened to them at night.

    For me,

Paddy McAloon - I Trawl The Megahertz
    Captain Beyond - Sufficiently Breathless
Thinking Plague - Decline and Fall
Genesis - And Then There Were Three
    Anthony Phillips - Soiree

All sound fitting at night to me.

Lamplight Symphony from the same album would also qualify.

    I play late at night:

ambient (Eno and all his children)
    Bill Evans
ECM jazz like Metheny or Ralph Towner
    Robert Rich
slow burn rock like No Quarter
Jon Hassell - Last Night the Moon Came Dropping Its Clothes in the Street
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

    Works for me!

Actually I wear earbuds to sleep and have my iPod on shuffle. Those that know my taste are aware that that means 70% of the songs are not for the faint of heart. It helps me sleep, really.

Frank Sinatra- In The Wee Small Hours, Only The Lonely, some of the earlier Columbia ballads
    Miles Davis- Kind Of Blue
    Keith Jarrett- Koln Concert
    Bill Evans- Waltz For Debby

I often used to play 'Days Of Future Passed' before falling asleep too, that album has a real atmosphere that works early morning as well...being about all times of day, of course!

I posted a thread about the nu-age band 2002, which I often put on at night....The responseless thread fell out of existence within hours after I posted it .

Nighttime/drifting-off-to-sleep is also where I do most of my Classical listening. Johann Strauss, Rachmaninoff, and Vivaldi are great night-time listens. Interesting enough, I prefer string quartets and smaller light orchestra combos as opposed to 108-piece full-blown orchestras at night.

Interesting. I never tried them in the morning. Maybe I'll give that a whirl. But I suppose because of its movie association, I'll always think of darkness when I hear Tubular Bells.
