Is/was it the early Peter Gabriel?
Geddy Lee?
Peter Hammill?
Or someone else?

Cobra handling and cocaine use are a bad mix.
Lee Jackson, Ashley Holt, and (semi-prog) Dave Cousins.
David Byron (assuming one thinks UH is "Prog")....
Hell, they ain't even old-timey ! - Homer Stokes
I know a lot of people will disagree with me saying they are the epitome of prog, but my 2 votes go to Demetrio Stratos from Area (bat shit crazy if you ask me), and Fish from Marillion.
Of course there are tons of singers in prog groups who just can't carry a tune at all (they are just disqualified immediately because I don't consider them vocalists at all).

A gentleman is defined as someone who knows how to play the accordion, and doesn't.
FISH
dreadful, awful, the worst
Kind of agree with Peter Gabriel, especially that falsetto which sounds like someone 'gargling' water but he did improve over time.
Never liked Hammill's voice to the extent it stopped me buying VDGG albums.
I can live with Geddy's vocals but only one album at a time i.e. couldn't play one Rush album after another.

There are many annoying ones, like Roger Waters, Roine Stolt, Andy Tillison(The Tangent), and Arnie Schafer(Apogee + Versus X ), but none can compare to Peter Hammill, whose voice sends me running for the hills.

Depending on your definition of prog, the Supertramp and Styx guys... (Someone will chime in with the names, don't care)
Eddie Jobson
Trevor Rabin
Steve Howe
phil collins and all the singers who try to sing like him.
David Surkamp from Pavlov's Dog.

Count me in the camp of those few benighted souls for whom Hammill's vox was a "no-go" area.
All praise and respect etc......to Mr. Hammill for artistic consistency over many years, but his voice just never floated my boat.

That guy from Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. The main reason I can't stand them is that sort of...well, it's not quite Cookie Monster Vocals, it's BEYOND CMV, as near as I can tell. And it renders the band unlistenable in my book.
Peter Hammill, his voice alone keeps me far away from VDGG.
The Guy from Flash.
I do. Thats why I don't sing on our albums anymore.
The guy in Agents of Mercy and the guy in The Tangent. And Geddy's voice "sound" on their last 4 or 5 records - all those overdubs and effects and all that turns me way off from those albums.

I think Phil had a lovely voice ( eg, carpet crawlers on Seconds Out) but ruined it when fame went to his head.
I can't listen to 3 Sides Live because of how he goes overboard: yelling/singing, adding extra words (oh lord!), etc.
At some point he also started over emoting. Became sappy.
This is a little like asking 'Who had the dumbest lyrics in Metal?'
I personally feel Geddy was at his best with the screeching falsetto of the 70's and early 80's. One of the most expressive voices in the business at the time.

I have no problem with Dave Cousins' voice. In fact I like it quite a bit.
For me, the most annoying in prog - Dave Lawson of Greenslade.

Looking forward to my day in court.
