Nirvana, Kiss, The Replacements, Yes and Deep Purple have each been nominated for next year’s Rock And Roll Hall of Fame.
The other nominations for the class of 2014 include Hall & Oates, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Peter Gabriel, LL Cool J, N.W.A., Link Wray, the Meters, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens and The Zombies. The top voted acts will be inducted in April at a ceremony in New York City.
2014 is the first year in which Nirvana have been eligible for entry with their debut single Love Buzz being released in 1988.
Once again the public will play a key role in deciding who will inducted into the Hall Of Fame as they vote alongside the artists, historians and music industry insiders of the Rock Hall voting body. From now until December 10, fans can vote on RollingStone.com for the nominees they’d like to see inducted. The top five acts will comprise a “fan’s ballot” that will count as one of the more than 600 ballots that determine the class of 2014.
the Hall of Fame is tainted, it's no longer exclusively Rock & Roll.

I voted for Link Wray. He's the nominee whose lack of inclusion to date is the most criminal, IMO.
Voted for Yes and Peter. Some good artists in there, but I feel Yes is most deserving. Currently Yes is 4th.

Although, here's hoping YES, Peter Gabriel and KISS do not make it in.

I actually think that the Yesmen have a chance to get inducted. In my estimation, there are four performers who are virtual "locks": Nirvana, Kiss, Deep Purple, and Linda Ronstadt. If I had any money to bet, I could win a sizable fortune betting on Nirvana's induction. Rest assured, the Kiss army will be lobbying vigorously for the induction of their heroes. This is Deep Purple's second go-round, and their absence is becoming a conspicuous embarrassment to an institution that has already inducted numerous acts that cite them as a major influence. As for Ronstadt, her record sales alone make her a prime candidate. That leaves two spots up for grabs...
If Deep Purple and Yes make it, then I'm satisfied.

I voted for Peter,Paul Butterfield,Yes,Deep Purple and Nirvana.
I vote for the closure of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A useless endeavor is there ever was one.
Voted for YES, Gab, and Deep Purp. Sad to see utter crap like Nirvana and Kiss leading the way. But I've always said, "Most Americans don't know shit about music!" And be careful! If Cat Stevens doesn't get inducted, don't be surprised if the R&R Hall of Fame building gets bombed!
Day dawns dark...it now numbers infinity.
If Nirvana wins the "fan vote," it would be a shame, not because I think they don't deserve to be inducted -- they should -- but because they are a lock IMO to make it in by all the other voters besides the ONE fan vote.
I think the fan ballot will in the end come down to Nirvana, Kiss and Yes. Ultimately, it will be the band with the more rabid fan base that takes the fan ballot, which I think will come down to Kiss and Yes.
And let's not forget that a win in the fan poll does not mean the winner will automatically get in. It's just one vote in around 600.
Of the nominees this year, if six get in, I'm thinking it will be:
Nirvana
Hall and Oates
The Replacements
Linda Rondstadt
Either LL Cool J or NWA
and, yes, either Deep Purple, Yes or Peter Gabriel
And I wouldn't be surprised if the voters don't go for any of the last three and put either Paul Butterfield or The Zombies.

Yes

Still don't get why people think it's such an outrage if a band hasn't been "inducted." It's just a stupid museum that Jann Wenner and his inflated ego decided to call a hall of fame. It means nothing.

I think when this time of year comes around, there should be three RnR Hall of Fame threads for:
1) Those who keep beating a dead horse by saying the RnR HoF is a joke.
2) Those who keep beating a dead horse by saying certain nominees are not "rock" acts.
3) Those who actually want to discuss the nominees on their merits despite the fact that the RnR HoF may very well be a joke and that the venue would be better served being called the "Music Hall of Fame" or something similar because some of the nominees/inductees are rap or soul or country acts.

I voted for CS, H&O, DP, Zombies and YES. I actually voted for YES about ten times but I don't know if they all count. I'm guessing only one vote per person counts. Does anyone know for sure?

If there was a Marketing Hall of Fame, KISS would be a deserving first round inductee.
This is, in all truth, exactly why the 'fan vote' will equal roughly 1/600th of the actual vote, if I read the details correctly.

Kiss is more deserving of a star on Hollywood's walk of fame (which I'm sure they already have), since they were more of a novelty act than a substantive contributor to the art of rock and roll.
Nirvana? Seriously? Yeah, they were big, but for how long? I think there's something to be said for some degree of longevity.
