It's a great one, isn't it? I expect you already have it, but if not Platypus, the second album by predecessor band Sotos, is also a must.

RIP Yan. Such a tragic loss.

I have Platypus, but it's been years since I listened to it attentively. I'll do so tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder!

Wow, I didn't realize how many of the Cuneiform artists I really like, I guess I am a avant fusion fan afterall

I have to thank a local cd shop in Minneapolis for their eclectic selection of cds, as they were mostly found in the obscure Progressive rock bin.

I swear I bought a Happy the Man cd there that was on the Cuneiform label?? digging now. It was a non Arista disc for sure.

Tonight, binging on a bunch of these CDs.

I'm just gonna copy and paste from the Top 10 Cuneiform thread, since my list is the same. In no particular order:

    1. Bone - Uses Wrist Grab
    2. Cheer-Accident - Fear Draws Misfortune (My former band Tamandua did a double bill with them when they hit Boston on tour for this album. We all had a freakin' blast.)
    3. Curlew - Fabulous Drop (or pretty much any Curlew released on Cuneiform. Though not originally released on Cuneiform, North America is another favorite. An album with Fred Frith and Tom Cora on it is a groovy thing. The Cuneiform issue with the six extra live tracks is a big hairy bonus. That's right people, the bonus is simultaneously big and hairy.)
    4. Dead Cat Bounce - Chance Episodes
    5. Doctor Nerve - Skin
    6. Hamster Theatre - Carnival Detournement (The Public Execution of Mister Personality is also awesome, but Carnival Detournement was the first one I dug into.)
    7. Happy Family - Toscco
    8. Machine and the Synergetic Nuts - Leap Second Neutral
    9. Thinking Plague - In Extremis (I dig them all. A History of Madness is a close second, but In Extremis is the first one I dug into.)
    10. Volapuk - Polyglot

CHANGE OF SCHEDULE, WE WILL BE STARTING 1 HOUR EARLIER AT 5.30PM CENTRAL (6.30 EASTERN) ON MAY 31ST.

Episode 60 of the Post-Avant Jazzcore Happy Hour will be a three and a half hour bumper edition dedicated to Cuneiform Records, formed in 1984 by Steve Feigenbaum, dedicated to adventurous, boundary-bursting music by artists from around the world.
The podcast should be up within 48 hours of the show airing. Check out previous shows at https://podcasts.progrock.com/post-a...core-happy.../
Search the podcast page for jazzcore.
Requests & recommendations can be sent to ian@progrock.com

I had so much material had to extend the show by an hour, still had to cut a bunch of stuff. I'll be covering most aspects of the label and focusing on artists particularly associated with the label.

    Thanks!

    P.S.

I figured that if you listen to Cuneiform releases 8 hours a day (like it was a JOB!), you'd have over 2 months of listening.

As much as I love most of the music on Cuneiform, I doubt I would survive 2 weeks of that, much less 2 months!

It's merely meant to make you go "OOOOOO" and "AAAAAHHHHH" over my voluminous work over the four decades. It's not a recommended dosage!

Looks like I have around 200 Cuneiform albums plus 2 boxsets so that's probably around a month at 8 hours a day 5 days a week.

So many great things... There came a day many years ago now, when I realized that Cuneiform had become my favorite label. Well not Favorite exactly, more like first in the line as a place to find thrilling new music (sorry Recommended...). Blast. Thinking Plague. Cheer Accident. Curlew. Kerman.... It is a long and wonderful list.

My very favorite Cuneiform album must be Happy Family- Tossco. This one alone, above all others, has probably given me two solid months of joy over the years (I think I acquired it around 1998)!
