I'm afraid to admit that this die-hard Beatles fan's pre-teen years were inundated with his old man listening to Muzak all the time. While I was always a Beatles fan, it wasn't until I started buying the albums that I realized I had already known a lot of their songs because of the Muzak versions.

And I think Paul Williams said he actually wrote We've Only Just Begun for a TV commercial, and it was only after the commercial had aired for awhile, that he realized it would work as an actual song that might work in a non-advertising oriented context.

The story that I heard was that Richard Carpenter saw the tv ad one night and felt the song would be perfect for them to record but the song was incomplete, only being for a 30 or 60 second tv spot, so they asked Williams to write more of a song to it.
