These two DAAL albums are quite excellent, nothing short of what the band got us to expect from them.

    Deus ex Machina ~ Devoto

    Still digesting this fine album...

    DEM - Devoto.jpg

“Extremely tight, lots of texture and dynamic shifts and flawless acrobatic vocals...by one of the genre's best...” ~ Icon

“Everyone in Deus Ex Machina is a virtuoso.” ~ AllAboutJazz

Following an eight-year absence, the Italian rock/progressive group Deus Ex Machina bursts back onto the international scene with Devoto. Blazing into contemporary focus with Devoto, Deus Ex Machina is poised to transcend the accomplishments of its past.

Devoto retains Deus Ex Machina’s distinctive blend of fiery, complexly designed music, passionate bel canto vocals, virtuosic instrumental performances and analogue-heavy textures. Here as before, DEM’s music combines both the energy and beauty of early Mahavishnu Orchestra and Larks' Tongues in Aspic-era King Crimson; classic 70s hard rock influences from AC/DC, Deep Purple and, most unmistakably, Led Zeppelin; hints of RIO-tinged avant-progressive; and the unmistakable Mediterranean vibe of fellow 'Rock Progressivo Italiano' combos like PFM. But just as each successive album has represented something different yet still unmistakably, unequivocally DEM, Devoto takes a more direct, immediate approach: a more hard-hitting, gut-punching, visceral Deus Ex Machina.

    https://cuneiformrecords.bandcamp.com/album/devoto

While Alberto Piras’ charismatic vocals tend to capture the listener’s attention, his co-composer Mauro Collina’s performance on guitar is one of Devoto’s strengths – fully in evidence not only in fierce electric solos, but also in the folksy, all-acoustic “Eterno Ritorno” and in the lovely instrumental closer “Quattro Piccole Mani”, where he shines on slide guitar. Piras bends the structure of the Italian language to fit the energy and complexity of the music, with surprising results (as in the intense, almost brooding “Multiverso”), or behaves like an additional instrument (as in the second half of the bluesy “Autore del Futuro”). Two saxophones and a trumpet (courtesy of guest musicians Alessandro Merola, Marco Matteuzzi and Massimo Greco) beef up the already lush instrumental fabric of the songs, enhancing the dynamic, jazzy vibe of “Figli” (also a showcase for Bonetti’s fiery violin) and the already-mentioned “Distratto da Me”.

Took me a few spins to get into the groove on this one, now it's one of my favorite DeM albums! I'm so hoping they do another one at some point.

Listened to the first few tracks from the new FEM album, and man was that good! I hope some US vendors get the CD soon.

To sad the reissues planed (by Altrock) for the band didn't make it. Maybe there is still a chance but I don't think so.

I still need this live album and the first two studio albums on CD.

    Love that artwork!

If the new Logos album is anywhere near as good as their last album, we're in for a treat. Barock Project has been an auto buy since their Skyline album. I expect great thing from BP.
