As someone who hasn't really been paying attention to all these releases, I did a quick search for "All Fighter's Past" and found it on Youtube. Gave me a smile to hear some unreleased Yes, even though some of the ideas were repackaged onto other albums.

Yeah, that one was included on the last Super-Deluxe remix/remodel of Fragile. But what the heck is “The Dean,” which I notice is not marked as previously unreleased? Unsurprisingly, googling Yes “The Dean” isn’t very helpful.

Word on the Hoffman forum is that the three tracks are all they could find in the vault from that venue, and are finished mixes not from the same night as the two Bruford tracks on Yessongs.

According to Wikipedia the AoM songs are: "19 and/or 23 February 1972 at the Academy of Music in New York City – "Perpetual Change" and "Long Distance Runaround"/"The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)" in which I believe Buford has left the band.

The The Yes Album release had some new mixes, but also the old Panegyric mixes. I suspect this release is the same, contrary to what they're saying.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but the alternative version of "Long Distance Runaround/The Fish" that got released this week is available in 24/192 resolution. That has me wondering if the digital download of this set will have everything available in that resolution. We'll see. No sign of the set on Qobuz yet.

the 2014 version is long oop, and costs almost as much as this box on the second hand market - I say it's a welcome reissue for those of us who missed out 10 years ago.

Possibly. In the end, they ended up using everything with White except those two tracks that had been dropped from the set after Bruford left. Exactly the same thing happened to Bruford with Genesis - the original plan was to have an entire double album from the 1976 tour, but that was delayed until they also had recordings from the 1977 tour with Chester Thompson, and the band decided they preferred the way Chester played so the only track with Bruford on "Seconds Out" was "Cinema Show", which they no longer played in 1977. Problem is, whereas we have lots of quality boots from Genesis' 1976 tour (plus the film), there are only bootleg-quality recordings from the "Fragile" tour, apart from those two (admittedly long, 30 minutes total) tracks on "Yessongs".

I'm just wondering but do you find that 70's recordings made available in Hi Res sound any better than the original since they were never recorded in Hi Res? I'm interested to try some out but remain sceptical.

If the analog tapes are in good shape and the album was decently recorded, then yes, I find the hi res version can sound better than the CD version. This is especially true for a good remix.

All of this depends on having an audio system with high enough resolution to reveal the difference. My system isn't terribly expensive (though my wife probably disagrees ), but it is very transparent. I can easily hear the difference between CD quality and hi res. This wasn't the case with my audio system from 20 years ago when I first compared CD and SACD. I could barely hear the difference back then.

Thanks for your reply. I've just bought a new Marantz cd player which can handle hi res files and my Sony Blu Ray via my Cambridge Audio DAC can also do the job. I have most of Steven Wilson's albums on Blu Ray and most of the SW Yes remixes on Blu Ray too, the sound can often be amazing and better than cd to my ears, other times not so much. I think a lot depends on the original mix and production as you say. I'm thinking of buying some hi res downloads from Qobuz but many people say its a waste of time and money, I guess I'll have to try one out. The obvious choice for me would be my favourite album of all time Going For The One which is never going to be remixed unless the original tapes are found.

Ex: I can hear the S&BB overdubs more clearly the higher the resolution - which is a little bit of a downer to be sure.... On the original cassette I had - could never tell really.....

But the environment and equipment does matter.
