Any time any one speaks to me about any musical project, the one absolute given is "it will not make big money". [tip of the hat to HK]

"Death to false 'support the scene' prog!"

I'm very excited to learn that a follow up to The Quiet In Your Bones is in the works. I was worried it might be another 20 year wait haha!

Loved the bit about phoning the Residents for help with recording

It really is a special album. Dave's music and the concrete tapework textures are always fabulous and unique. I also love the vocals - some difficult stuff beautifully performed.

agreed, definitely one of the most significant experimental rock albums of the 2020s so far for me.

(Unfortunately, The Quiet In Your Bones, released by Cuneiform, is only available in digital format)
I think that it would have been even more unfortunate if it had not come out at all, which was my only alternative option.

What lucky other soul do you think would make a physical release possible?

    ……. ?

Can you please tell them to contact Dave for next time?

A great interview. A talented author could write a novel based on it. Some favorite moments:

    1) the "Resident" phone call story made me lol...
    2) Jeopardy RIO category question: The 5UU's actually auditioned a future member of this hair metal one-hit wonder.
    3) The rock star bail bond story is great. Anyone have any inkling who it was?

"On one of my tunes, ‘Both Your Houses,’ I played a wooden temple block pattern. In the rests between the percussion lines, James wrote a melody, sort of; the flute is playing Sabbath’s ‘Iron Man,’ and the bassoon, Cream’s, ‘Politician’. The notes go by so fast that nobody in thirty-five years has recognized them, so I suppose I can spill the beans here."

What the heck? I bought the digital release, liked the music and even promoted the Bandcamp release on my review. I also happen to think I can dream about the physical release. If you take that honest wish as an insult it is your problem not mine.

    fun interview to read...

Knowing the character (mostly Carmaux and Present concerts around Belgium), it's hard to know where the fine line really is, but it's quite entertaining.

I've only hung out with Kerman a handful of times (and had some great email correspondences over the years), yet I could tell that he is one of the coolest cats out there. Warm, friendly, funny, smart, and engaging....love the guy! Sick-ass musician and composer too.
