The MC5 are finally in the R&R HOF, brought it in via a nonvoting mechanism, but finally correcting an error that needed correction. The 5 was the most exciting live band I ever saw. Sad that only Machine Gun Thompson is the sole living member now. I could go on, but I love this band and am glad that finally theier influence is recognized- metal and punk both owe a debt, and they were the band that introduced me to John Coltrane, Albert Ayler and Sun Ra. In 1967, when I was 14!

First time I heard the MC5 was on an AM radio station, WICE, in Providence in 1969. The 8pm to 12pm DJ would occasionally play current album cuts. One night he played "Kick Out the Jams." Of course, he played the radio-friendly version with "brothers and sisters" shouted at the end of the title. I had to have that record. The next day, I bought the LP and was stunned to hear the uncensored version when I played the song. Hope mom and dad didn't hear that.

I am sure they are thrilled to share that "honor" with Mary J. Blige, who has done more for rock and roll than Styx, Boston, Bad Company, or ELP. Every year it becomes more of a meaningless charade.
