Jethro Tull "Bursting Out" box set

The rumors that I have read for a while were true..next Tull box will be Bursting Out remixed by Steven Wilson, with the tracks from the European show left off the original album, some soundcheck tracks and the Madison Square Garden show as bonus material.

I'm not generally a fan of these reissues, or the SW remixes, but this one intrigues me. I've always been a bit nonplussed by Bursting Out because I felt the song list wasn't all that great. This may fix that. I'd love to see the final track list.

What the hell are they doing playing "4WD" in 1978, or is this from a later tour?

Fairly simple; it was written by that point but not recorded. Just like Tomorrow Was Today in 1972 or Working John, Working Joe in 1977, etc.

It is one of the soundcheck tracks. I guess Ian had the song for a while before it turned up on the "A" album. The SFTW box set revealed that "Working John, Working Joe" was around earlier too.

Cool, I didn't know that on either of those. It doesn't surprise me he had them as ideas earlier, but I'm surprised to see he actually played them with the band, even in rehearsal.

I have the reissued CD that restored some of the edits done in the first CD, plus the Berne concert on the Heavy Horses disc. Regardless, I feel myself getting ready to pre-order. I need help.

It's pretty easy. You just look for the little button that says something like "PREORDER". HTH.

"Bursting Out" is so great. I think Martin's guitar solo on "A New Day Yesterday" is perfection.

I wonder if this has the complete SFTW, which seems to be edited. (There's no way they would cut out the middle on that tour, right?)

    Very tempting well-loaded package.
But I already have the MSG concert CD/DVD and maybe other duplicates.
    Still interested though...

The Heavy Horses Box set has a concert with the same set list from the same tour mixed in 5.1. I guess I don’t really need this.

The book may be the most interesting part with this one, but I never had the MSG DVD, so this and the new mixes and extra tracks will be enough for me.

Release date June 21st, btw - not sure this has been mentioned.

"Heavy Horses" is the only song from that tour that wasn't on Bursting Out (unless you count the instrumental snippet of "Living in the Past"). Very surprised that they are bothering with this, as we already got the full Bern show on the Heavy Horses box. Do we really care about this being Wislon's mix as opposed to Jakko's?

Bursting Out has a weird history on CD. The first version to be released was the American single CD with three songs omitted. This was followed about a year later by a double CD released in Europe of the full album...except it seemed that they simply took the American master and spliced the missing songs back in, not necessarily in the right places. "Quatrain," instead of running directly into "Aqualung," just stops dead and is followed by Ian's "bye byes" that should have followed "Cross-Eyed Mary."

I already have versions of these releases, but for the integrity of the Tull box-set collection...

Yeah, don't try to act like you're not going to buy it, though.

I'm debating whether I need this set. I found the Jakko mix underwhelming though so I'm glad Wilson has had another shot at it.

Already have most of this, and all of these recordings feature Ian's more "nasal" voice that evolved between the recording of SFTW and HH. Still tolerable but...

Yeah, definitely on the fence here, as I acquired the MSG concert not that long ago (although probably more like two years now), but........still kick myself for not getting certain other boxed sets in this collection, so I'll probably bite the apple.
