    New Isildurs Bane!

To my great surprise I saw there is a new Isiludurs Bane out. I haven't seen any announcement or post on this yet. It has been released very quietly.

I haven't heared it yet but I will probably buy it next bandcamp friday. Anyone heared it yet? Any good?

Bought it a few days ago in a record shop. On first listen, not terribly impressed I must admit. The guy is the lead vocalist on some David Cross Band projects. If you like his singing, you're in for a treat, because he's all over it. If you're a fan of instrumental Isildurs Bane, you won't get much of that at all. I haven't really liked much of what they've put out since their long break from releasing albums, either on their own or with guest singers. Not saying it's not good, it's just that I am always dreaming of a follow-up to the first two volumes of MIND and I'm disappointed.

I thought the two albums with Peter Hammill were rather excellent, but i hafta admit that I am a big Hammill fan. The other two, 'off the radar' and 'Colors not found in nature' were good but not great. But yeah, the run from Cheval to Mind vol 2 was their peak. I do not really expect them to top that.

If they have vocals I'm not interested. I was a huge fan of IB until I saw them at Nearfest c/w vocals. It was all over for me.

I prefer Nature to Human Nature

Well, I made myself a compilation of the non-vocal stuff from that NF gig and there was half of a really great gig in there, the stuff from The Voyage in particular with Joachim Gustavson on violin, whom I never got to see with the band, as they usually toured without him.

I have that same sentiment and after hearing one track last week I know I won't go for this one either. I did buy the two with Hogarth which are oké, but I couldn't get into the one with Hammill. I prefer the instrumental stuff. The gig I saw in 2000 in Vervier was one of the best concerts I saw.

I thought “Colors Not Found…” was the only one with Hogarth, is there another?

No only one. With Hammill they did two albums.

My mistake; I confused Hogarth's albums with Richard Barbieri (who, b.t.w. also played live with Isildurs Bane).

Does anyone have a copy of their NF show? I got it from the Studio M online feed many years ago but it was on an old and now dead hard drive.

I really liked their set (including the singer) and would be happy to hear it again if anyone has it to share.

Thanks for doing so! My immediate thought opening this thread was “auto buy!” Comments herein make me at least wary.
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.

I'm sorry. But the way you worded your post was quite strange. It's almost like you wanted people to tell you if you should listen to the album or not before actually taking a listen. :P

I will readily admit that I've not really kept up with Isildur's Bane over the years, but I'm rather enjoying this after a couple of spins. Jinian Wilde was a new name to me, but I like his voice and feel like it's a good fit for the pieces presented here. It's certainly a different beast to their instrumental albums, but it still feels distinctly IB-esque to me (based on my familiarity with the first couple of MIND albums in particular). It has that same kind of spacious, highly textured sound and heavy use of percussion which is what I most associate with this band.

I also quite like the new album. It is not the best they did but still pretty good album. I think you can compare it in sound and quality to the album they did with Steve Hogarth. If you liked that one you can easily pick this one up as well. If you did not better stay away.
