    Lars Ulrich & Rock Operas

Metallica's drummer was on the Smartless Podcast this week. At one point, Jason Bateman asks him if we will ever again get a group creating rock/metal musicals/operas. I hoped he would mention progressive rock, and that this genre is filled w/ such works.
Compile your list of favorite [prog] rock operas (and even concept albums) created in the past 30 years and post them here. Feel free to visit Smartless on Twitter and post your thoughts on this topic:

    Progressive rock operas?
Progressive rock is filled with such? With full librettos that last the entire album and actually tell one story?

Can you name 3? My mind is blank…

“Remember, if it doesn't say "Cuneiform," it's not prog!” - THE Jed Levin

Any time any one speaks to me about any musical project, the one absolute given is "it will not make big money". [tip of the hat to HK]

"Death to false 'support the scene' prog!"

please add 'imo' wherever you like, to avoid offending those easily offended.

The OP was talking about Rock Operas. Not concept albums. Big difference.

Off the top of my head:

The OP also said done in the last 30 years so that rules out most of the ones listed by starless.

And to the comment from the podcast I agree with ken that rock operas and concept albums are completely different things.
