I suppose Roger Waters sees himself as the most important component of The Dark Side Of The Moon, but I haven't seen any of his comments related to Redux where he belittles the importance of the other members so I'm not sure where your point comes from.

Disliking the new version? Well that is fair. No one is obliged to like it.

I was basically indifferent to his 'redux' until I saw the interview which was on his own website. That's where many of us took against it. This interview is where the 'no rock n roll guitar solos' comment came from, and the one where he blasted the other members' writing abilities. Frankly I think he needed them to translate his ideas into something accessible.

Hmm... ok I did not see that one. I saw the one where praised Gilmour as one the greatest guitar players ever. Have you considered the possibility that the rock'roll guitars comment was not a diss towards Gilmour but just an expression by Waters that he wants to try something different now?

Well, take 'Money' where he replaced the guitar solo with him droning on about something or other. If that's the 'something different now', pass.

I understand and it's okay to feel that way, but that wasn't my point.

^I do get that he wanted to do something different, but he really rubbed people up the wrong way with his comments. He could have sold it in a more positive way IMHO.

I've listened to all the promo tracks. Some of the musical arrangements aren't bad in themselves but I don't know why they are all so slow.

I really don't mind his comments: they are irrelevant to my enjoyment from the music. What I do mind is the excessive banter and added lyrics in the place where there was once actual music. Even the lyrics themselves, which were Waters' forte, are cringeworthy.
Which is too bad, it had real potential, the string arrangements for example I think are great, and I don't mind the Leonard Cohen vibes. Just so many words! On the run, great gig in the sky, money, any color you like- I just can't understand how someone can enjoy these, if I were Waters I would have got tired of my own voice halfway thru.
All the words starting with "self" are appropriate here- self centered, self indulgent, no self awareness at all.

^I thought 'Money' was hideous, largely because of that spoken word nonsense in the middle of it.

The comments he made about the other members are all quoted here. This is on his own website as well, somewhere.

No, he clearly was dissing Gilmour and the rest. He made this pretty clear.

Has this been released on CD? If so, and anyone bought it, does it come with any liner notes?

I just read a review in my newspaper and the reviewer is not really negative and gives it 3 out of 5 stars. The review ends with 'new isn't always better'.

I guess if it's getting reviewed in newspapers, there must be a CD...

Positive 4 out of 5 review in the Times (London) - paywalled though. Same guy gave Waters' London gig last Sunday a negative review, so not a sycophant.

This is off on a tangent to a certain extent but I just came across an interview with Bob Ezrin where he discusses (among other things) his relationship with Roger Waters.

Ezrin seems to consider Waters a likeable person but does takes issue with the way he goes about his activism and how that may be perceived in certain quarters.

There's no discussion of DSOTM Redux but PEers will probably be interested in Ezrin's memory of working with Peter Gabriel.

I caught this a few days ago- really enjoyable interview.

I tried to listen to the album, but it was the same as with the first singles: it's boring as hell! Totally uninteresting. Despite the dark subject matter, I think of DSOTM as a very colorful album; maybe that's part of the meaning of the cover art. But DSOTM Redux from what I've heard is just dark, without any of the musical highs that the original album had. Oh well, kind of sad.

I have now listened this four or five times. I enjoy it more and more each time.

I think the whole thing (now that I've had a chance to listen to it) more or less works as a sort of "that was when I was young, this is what it's like now" statement. I won't listen to it often, or buy a copy; but I'm glad it's out there, and that I've listened to it.

^^ I think it would stand better on its own if it wasn't preceded by the original. So, I today's the evaluations of it are contextual, which they probably shouldn't be, unless he presents it that way.

I think he should have sold it that way from the start. Instead. he began the PR for the album in a very negative way.
