    The Beatles- A Special Tribute

I am thinking of bands who have done covers of beatle songs, and bands who have composed songs with a beatles vibe to them. Here is a short list ,spooky tooth,i am the walrus, tempest, paperback writer, barclay james harvest, john lennons guitar, and titles, unitopia, nothing lasts forerver, guadicalnal diary, and your bird can sing. This is just a samping, what comes up for you 🙂

    Great covers:
801: Tomorrow Never Knows (to my mind the definitive version)
    Jeff Beck: She's a Woman
Crack the Sky: I Am the Walrus

(Note that I think a great cover should add something in some way different from the original; otherwise I would include the two Beatles covers on Todd Rundgren's Faithful album, which are, well, marvellous reproductions... speaking of which...)

    Great pastiches:
Utopia -- the entire Deface the Music album, summarizes the Beatles' entire career without using a single Beatles song.
    XTC -- Skylarking
Cobra handling and cocaine use are a bad mix.

Sean Lennon does some great takes on his dad's music.

I like Eric Johnson's cover of Paperback Writer:

Beatlesesque album from 1968. The Family Tree -Miss Butters. No video of the whole album, but this is a playlist of it.

Rundgren did two Beatles songs on his album Faithful.
Head East did a killer version of the song Its For You (Beatles wrote it but never recorded it) on their Live album.
Zappa did I am the Walrus straight and rewrote the lyrics to Strawberry Fields, Lucy in the Sky and Norwegian Wood for his 1988 tour. And of course he pulled off the brilliant spoof of the Sgt Pepper album cover with We're Only In It For the Money.
Sarah McLachlan did a nice version of Blackbird.
Aerosmith did Come Together (for the dreadful Sgt Peppers movie).
Carpenters did a very different version of Ticket to Ride.
Deep Purple did a weird cover of Help.
Phish did all of the White Album live once and continued to do a few of the songs from the album later like While My Guitar and Cry Baby Cry.
The Dead did a bunch of Beatles songs live, probably most notably Hey Jude.
Phil Collins covered Tomorrow Never Knows on his first solo album.

I'm sure there are a million more, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind.

As far as bands sounding like the Beatles, probably every rock band since the mid 60s has tried to sound at least something like the Beatles at one point or another.

Oasis were essentially a modernized Beatles tribute. Let There Be Love is probably their most Beatles-like song.

Two different knockoffs of “Tomorrow Never Knows”:

    1. “Lips Of Steel” by Marietta, GA’s own Guadalcanal Diary:

Adrian Belew did quite a few Beatles covers, and some of his own pieces are clearly influenced by the Beatles.
