Certain songs that are repeated on the 3 albums are different versions. Different arrangements.

The way Fripp describes the project the repeated sequences were part of a concept. Maybe rearranging for some to be a reprise or maybe not. Nevertheless the albums were released individually and a triple album set never in fact surfaced. Was that due to contractual reasons? Can you explain this?
Ah finally. The reasoning why I dont care for this release. lol

Would Fripp have been playing the sequencer run on guitar I wonder?

As we have seen, a couple of Exposure’s tracks go back to 1977, but real work on the album began at the Hit Factory in New York in January 1978. By August Fripp had effectively finished the album; Daryl Hall had sung on most of the songs. In September, while already in the process of mastering the record, Fripp was confronted with contractual problems that prevented Hall from appearing on Exposure in such a prominent role. Hall would be allowed to sing on only two tracks, and this meant that much of Exposure would have to be re-made.
Fripp responded to the crisis by calling up his old friend Peter Hammill, who agreed to fly to New York and sing for Exposure; Hammill appears on “You Burn Me Up I’m a Cigarette,” “Disengage,” and “Chicago.” Plans to have Blondie’s Deborah Harry sing a version of Donna Summers’ “I Feel Love” were nixed by Chrysalis Records.
I liked Tamm's book, but he must have done quite a job staying away from 80's pop radio not to be able to tell that it was Hall singing on "You Burn Me Up.."

I wouldn't have known if it hadn't said so in the liner notes.

...and it didn't say who sang on what in the liner notes of the original release. Hall did get a co-writing credit for "You Burn Me Up" on the record label, but then he was also credited on "Mary" despite not singing on the released version.

Chances are I never knew until many years later when I saw the specific credits online.

Hall was co-credited for the two songs he sang on the album ("You Burn Me Up" and "North Star") and two he didn't ("Chicago" and "Mary").

    Only on the label.

On the sleeve he's only mentioned in the dinosaurs complaint and in the "Contributors" list, but it's not specific about which of the Contributors appear on which tracks.

Yes, the sleeve only specified who wrote the lyrics for each song (same with the Definitive Edition CD from 1989 that I have). Made it interesting trying to figure out which drummer was on each song too.

I think the real reason is that Oates wasn't involved.

Just found this nosing around on Wikipedia. It's on the Wayback Machine: Fripp performing on The Midnight Special in '79. It says some of the guitar loops played here were used in the track "1983" on God Save the Queen.

I think I need to fondle this box! One thing though: I wish the artwork for most of these albums wasn't so fugly. It always seemed to me like they were INTENTIONALLY ugly, which sort of worked for the individual albums, but isn't so nice for a Super Deluxe Edition. Not that they should change it or anything! It is what it is.

I've been meaning to have "that" talk with you, Dave, about how it's perfectly natural to get a...a physical response to certain boxed sets.
