So last night, I heard an iconic (they're always iconic) album from a 70s ... prog, I think? ... band for the first time and absolutely loved it. I decided to make a game out of it. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to guess the band based on my poor caricature skills. This was the makeup of the band at the time they made the said album. Have a go!

Almost looks like Pete Ham on the left. But, Badfinger wouldn't be considered prog.

If they were good caricatures or if it was a photo, would we know what band it was based on the picture and what you've told us?
Because if they're a band I WOULDN'T recognize, then there's no point really.

Yes, I think so. I did base it off several photos. I tried my best, but I know I'm not GREAT at caricature. Though I honestly think I nailed the middle guy but that's just my opinion.
Hints: They're in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Two of the caricatured people are now dead.
Album went to #5 in the US and it's the album I always hear people gush over when they talk about this band. With good reason, now that I've heard it.

I think they're good caricatures. The one on the right looks like Peter Nicholls could have drawn it.

A trio that is in the hall of fame with 2 of 3 dead? I have tried to think of any band that would fit that category and come up blank. The guy in the middle looks like John Entwistle to me.
They were a trio when they made this particular album.

Nope. Another hint is this album came out when ELO was just forming.
Also, prior to this album, they'd been a quartet. (So yes, I guess this makes them 60s/70s... sorry if I misled anyone.)

We have TWO winners! And, yep, that's Capaldi!
So I guess, for a prize, I should say why it bowled me over. Seriously, the first three minutes of "Glad" alone kicked ass and had me air drumming so hard. This album would have been worth it just for that. Having mostly known Winwood for overusing timbales in the eighties I was stunned at what tasty piano/organ work he was capable of. I thought it was going to sound clinical, but no... just really driving and full of groove. The remaining songs were quite good, too, although I was disappointed that the title track was a more or less straight folk arrangement with Wood's flute tying the verses together. I thought it'd be some sort of Yes-y jazzed up thing, so it'll take some getting used to. But I've listened to it twice already today and I think it'll get constant rotation.
Do the other albums rate with this one? I, um... DO know Far From Home doesn't.

I'll give you credit for the Capaldi drawing. That is who I thought it was from the get-go but I couldn't match the face with the name or the group. It took your hint about them being a quartet in the 1960s for it to click.
Barleycorn for me is their absolute peak. High heeled boys comes close, I would go there next if you haven't yet got that one. The first two, the psych quartet albums, have many great singles, but it seems you know about those.
I thought it was John Entwhistle in the middle too!
Now of course I'm listening to "Glad" with fresh ears and being blown away by it! That's a great album - Traffic did have a bit of the Canterbury spirit in this era, didn't they? Although with some boogie.
Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys is terrific. The two which followed are patchier, but have their moments.
Earlier on, the first two with Dave Mason are also excellent, but have a somewhat different sound.

Sorry I didn’t see this thread earlier. I would have said Traffic right away because, frankly, your Capaldi is excellent.
