I hated to see Nick Castellanos leave the Reds, but I am giddy that he has a chance to get a ring. Go Phillies!

Excellent call. It was obvious to everyone, and he had the guts to call it.

On January 1rst, Ohio gets legalized sports betting. The Hard Rock Casino in Cincinnati has, naturally, scheduled Pete Rose to make the first bet there at 12:01.

If he's smart, he'll bet against himself.

He's pretty much been a bust here, so far, but he's made some contributions during this playoff run - especially defensively. Who woulda thought?

The Phillies did their best Yankees impression last night.

No siree! This is Cincy and Pete Rose. So much so, that Hard Rock doesn't even have their license yet. They planned this on anticipation of getting it next week.

That catch by McCormick was really good - even more for hitting the fence then landing hard on his back....

    Yes, I believe so.

When your team is built around hitting and they don't hit, you're not going to be successful. I'm hopeful with Wheeler going tomorrow, but it's going to be a rough go to get two wins in Houston.

I noticed pretty early on that the Astros seem to have better pitchers than the Phillies and imo this is a big reason they are doing better and will probably win. The Phillies need to tie the series and then win again (so two more wins). Imo, this is very unlikely (although of course not impossible). I live in the Philly area so of course I am rooting for them but I won't jump up and scream and smash car windows in the parking lot if the Astros win.

On paper the Astros might have the best overall pitching staff in baseball. Verlander is likely to win the Cy Young again this season. Valdez has pitched great all season, and Christian Javier might actually be the best pitcher on the team. The bullpen is deep too.

I'm rooting for the Phillies too, although I lived in Texas for 30+ years, and have been an Astros fan since about 1982. It killed me when they finally won the WS in 2017, only to have it turn out that they cheated that year. But they've been to many World Series since then. They seem to shed high dollar players like Springer and Correa, replace them with young guys, and not miss a beat. It's really remarkable, the sustained success they've had.

That said, go Phils! A wild card team making the World Series, and showing they belong there is no mean feat. I'd love to see their bats wake up (particularly Hoskins/Realmuto/Castellanos), that is going to be necessary to have any chance in Game 6 and possibly a Game 7 if it gets that far.

^So I guess you like to root for the underdog? Or is it because you now live in South Jersey? Anyway, congratulations to the Astros on winning the world series.

    NL manager of the Year?

    Joe Girardi.

If iy wasn't for him, the Phillies would not have won the pennant.

I don't like Mushnick at all (he's a self-important epic whiner if there ever was one), but he nails this.

I'm a baseball fan, and moved up to the area (near Marlton/Medford NJ) 3 years ago. Been to a number of Phillies games since then. My wife's from this area and is a long time Phillies fan. So I became a fan while retaining my Astros fan status, which wasn't that difficult since one was NL and one was AL. Both getting into the WS tested me though lol.

I'm happy for Astros fans, because they've suffered with the stench of the previous WS victory, so for them it's nice to have one that is legit. And I'm happy for Dusty Baker.

I'm also happy for long time Phillies fans for this team's year, and their overall performance in the playoffs. Their bats weren't good enough against the Astros, but they were good enough against every other opponent they faced. If they can make a couple of roster changes and improve that, I think they'll be back in the playoffs next year. Thomson seems like a good coach and the players play for him.
