Meet the new Yes, same as the old Yes. Ok, not really.

Here was the setlist for the 9012Live Yes concert I was privileged to attend on March 12, 1984, at Kemper Arena. The band was positioned on a spaceship-like structure, which certainly fit the mood of the songs. The beer and music kept flowing and minds were bending to take in all that was being heard. 19 tracks later it was all over and done. A concert for all ages, as I recall it.

I didn't see Yes in the 70's so my fave shows were in '98 on the OYE tour - with Igor adding his flair the band were on fire and a great setlist featuring mainly classic Yes played to perfection.

I still think that they could have been more relevant if not for the whole Igor fiasco. He was a perfect fit, musically.
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally

The downfall of Yes started before that incident though. Imo, what did them in was Union. It was such a disaster critically that it's reputation as such a weak album was taken to heart by enough fans for the band to suffer. Plus Talk only seemed to bury them deeper in the hole. At around this point they became the Nicolas Cage of prog rock bands.
I do agree that Igor was technically very good but so is Tom Brislin. I don't think the issue is talent though. I think not enough people accept Yes without Jon Anderson and or Rick Wakeman. At one point I practically lived and breathed their music(despite my Rush avatar and name)but their glory days are long gone.

Union (and Tour) is the equivalent of Daffy blowing himself up for audience applause.
You can only do it once.
