Meet the new Yes, same as the old Yes. Ok, not really.

The reason I roll my eyes at discussions like this is the projection inherent in views like yours, the idea that the problem is with Yes's music and not with your expectations of what Yes should be.

OMG I just clicked over and looked at the thread titles and almost every one of them is front-loaded to start a debate about the "problems" with the current lineup. I can't even.

From my viewpoint, Yes without the New Age-mesiter JA is a big "No". I was fortunate enough to see them live on the 90125 tour (in 1984) with the line-up of: Jon Anderson ~ Tony Kaye ~ Trevor Rabin ~ Chris Squire and Alan White. It was like magic and it will always be the last vision of this great band that I keep in my memory stored.
For me the magic was still present with Igor Khoroshev and Tom Brislin in the line up. Hell.. when Wakeman came back into the fold they pulled off some amazing shows in 2004

Here was the setlist for the 9012Live Yes concert I was privileged to attend on March 12, 1984, at Kemper Arena. The band was positioned on a spaceship-like structure, which certainly fit the mood of the songs. The beer and music kept flowing and minds were bending to take in all that was being heard. 19 tracks later it was all over and done. A concert for all ages, as I recall it.

I didn't see Yes in the 70's so my fave shows were in '98 on the OYE tour - with Igor adding his flair the band were on fire and a great setlist featuring mainly classic Yes played to perfection.

I still think that they could have been more relevant if not for the whole Igor fiasco. He was a perfect fit, musically.
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally

Hey, what was my setlist from 1984, Dogmeat? Favoritism toward the long standing member Progatron may be at work here. Besides, they completely ignored the outstanding work on 90125 in that performance!!!

Well, mine had Awaken, South Side Of The Sky, America, Yours Is No Disgrace, and side one of Tales... yours had Make It Easy, Owner Of A Lonely Heart and City Of Love. Not 'dogmeat', but an apples 'n oranges scenario for sure!

Kinda ironic b/c when I got into the band, so many older fans were complaining about this tour

I have never left a Yes concert back in the day unhappy with the set list so yours counts too SunRunner, but things were way different back then. Sometimes I pine for the "old" days. I would not be going now.

Agreed and certainly live they would have really benefitted. Igor was an exceptional player who could handle the Moraz and Wakeman parts extremely well...

The downfall of Yes started before that incident though. Imo, what did them in was Union. It was such a disaster critically that it's reputation as such a weak album was taken to heart by enough fans for the band to suffer. Plus Talk only seemed to bury them deeper in the hole. At around this point they became the Nicolas Cage of prog rock bands.

I do agree that Igor was technically very good but so is Tom Brislin. I don't think the issue is talent though. I think not enough people accept Yes without Jon Anderson and or Rick Wakeman. At one point I practically lived and breathed their music(despite my Rush avatar and name)but their glory days are long gone.

Union (and Tour) is the equivalent of Daffy blowing himself up for audience applause.

You can only do it once.

I know it's a small thing, but I absolutely loved Brislin taking the Owner guitar solo.

Id probably say my favorite was the symphonic tour but this was a close second, even with a few gaffes. This entire show is uploaded on youtube too!
