Moody Blues drummer Graeme Edge has passed away. He was 80. Strangely, I was just thinking about him yesterday while on a bike ride.

Rest in peace.
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally
RIP Graeme Edge
Blasting, billowing, bursting forth
With the power of ten billion butterfly sneezes
Man with his flaming pyre has conquered the wayward breezes
Climbing to tranquility, far above the cloud
Conceiving the heavens, clear of misty shroud
Higher and higher
Now we've learned to play with fire
Go higher and higher and higher...

So was I (not on my bicycle but still...). The Graeme Edge Band came to mind and I was thinking about how much I liked the Muddy Boots album for its soulful hard rock. I was curious whether they ever did any live shows but could not find any online information. So I'm assuming no. A small but usually overlooked piece of Moody Blues history.
Graeme with his poetic prowess really made the Moodies stand out from other acts of their time. RIP.
The Moodies were one of my first love's as a teenager. A sad day.

R.I.P.
Sad to lose another Moody. Time marches on...

Wow. I guess this is the end of the Moodies. The Moody Blues are one of my all time favorite bands. RIP Graeme.

Rest in peace, veteran cosmic rocker.
RIP,
All that's left from the classic period is Pinder and the two new guys.
reported today that Graeme Edge has sadly passed away. Will be listening to some Moody Blues tonight
Just saw this - sad news. RIP
RIP sir.
The older I get, the better I was.
RIP Graeme. The Long Distance Voyager show was one of my favorite concerts. Loved those spoken parts, they added a level of mystique and intellect to the proceedings….
I am HUGE Moodies fan. Their live shows for the last 25+ years have featured a principle drummer (NOT Graeme). Gordon Marshall - drums, percussion (1991-2015) and Billy Ashbaugh - drums, percussion (2016-present). Of course Graeme is there as 2nd drummer, but his participation was limited. Perhaps his health has been failing for a long time.
Hayward continues to tour "solo" with Julie Ragins - keyboards, percussion, guitar, saxophone, vocals (she also in the Moodies) and guitarist extraordinaire Mike Dawes. If this show comes near you...GO!!!! It is a "MUST-SEE"!!!
I'm betting that the band will continue. But nonetheless...rest in peace Mr. Edge!!! Thanks so very very much for all the fantastic music through the years!!!

^Wow, I wasn't aware to what extent Graeme's participation was limited. Back when he was more active and on their earlier albums he was a very solid rock drummer imo though.

Sorry to read it. Aside from the poems, I always liked his song "22,000 Days" from Long Distance Voyager.
RIP
"Alienated-so alien I go!"
Playing This Is The Moody Blues in honor of him tonight. Not a big fan of compilation albums but I always thought this was a good one. RIP Graeme
Rest In Peace !
Pura Vida!.
There are two kinds of music. Good music, and the other kind. ∞
Duke Ellington.
His beautiful speaking voice on some of the Moody Blues songs put those songs up a couple of notches.
And his drumming reminds me a bit of Ringo's, in the sense he never overplayed, just found a nice groove that complimented the song.
Surprisingly, that is quite difficult to do, because as musicians, folks naturally want to play full out. But limiting how much you play is difficult.
May you fly high and free Graeme, and thank you for all of the wonderful music you gave us. <3
