Definitely a lot more prominent in the avant and RIO sub-genres from what I know.

^ It's typically a sub-genre of the "real" prog, which is why it intends openly to imitate Genesis and Yes. They are the best in true prog.
There's a new Yes record coming very soon, and there's a tour by Genesis as well. Which I'd actually attend if I'd have enough moneys.
We'll all live tomorrow too, albeit perhaps not with the "prog".

Sorry to reference a non-Prog song, but my favorite accordion laced track of all time is "This Is The Day" by The The, in which Wix Wickens knocks it out of the park (especially the 5 minute plus extended version). The video is quite cool as well, even though it's the shorter version of this outstanding tune. The instrument as played here never sounded so good to me as it fits right into the bands sound.

I don't care what anyone says - I love John Evan's use of the accordion on Tull's War Child. He has some nice melody lines and it fits in with the album's lighter touch.
