just got a letter from the belgian post asking me to cough up €24.31 to the customs to have the parcel delivered. if i don't the parcel will go back home.

i suppose i could if i was sure i knew what was inside

What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound (2112)

BTW, "Wet Dream" (imo) slipped under the radar of many people. It should have received more notice when it was initially released.
That one's quite rare on CD, I think- at least, the official, actual One Way release. I remember Discogs had a page which went into details of how you could tell the official CD from the counterfeits. The lettering on the spine is the easiest way...it has to be exactly like this.

ISTR it being a decent album. Never got into Broken China though which I find a bit dirgey.

i think it's the basic standard and lowest value, imposed by the EC, whether coming from the US (trump tax imposition reply) or UK (brexit)

But if nobody knows what's inside, how do they know what you need to pay?

I'm sure they looked inside (IR camera) or opened the parcel (customs/douane have all the rights to do so)
if they opened it, they saw that thses were used CDs, but it doesn't make a difference, because they will look for the price of the new merchendise and the tarif will remain the same until a certain bracket is overpassed.
last time I ordered from Switzerland some 12 months ago, they opened the package, but they opened it and didn't even try to hide itbut didn't charge me,
Either because the tarifs are only applicable since last 01/07/21 or because Switzerland is not concerned

It all depends on what's written on the customs declaration(?). I suppose it's indicated as "gift" anyway, so no value can be checked (a gift is free of charge under €45) . And there's no receipt inside (opposed to when you order online) Strange, this Belgian postal service ...

Received my package over the weekend, must have been one of the last ones sent out. Thanks to Duncan for squeezing me in at the last possible minute. Here is what I received:

Thinking Plague - In This Life - 1989 - in jewel case from Cuneiform/ReR Megacorp

    Gong - I See You - 2014 - in well-worn digipak with 27 page booklet inside

L'Orkestre Des Pas Perdus - L'Age Du Cuivre - 2011 - bi-fold digipak - inside was handwritten note & ticket stub from a Montreal concert on 16 November (no year given)

All three of these are a complete mystery to me. I have heard of Gong & Thinking Plague here but have not heard their music before. The third disk looks like it contains jazz, based on the sax, trombone & snare drum pictured inside the fold. Will spend some time with them and report back. Thanks again to Duncan for his efforts in this project.

Didn't you know that you'd be charged? Pay it, and take the cds, otherwise Duncan will have to pay the return to sender fees.

Got a message from the post office. I have to pay €0.00 when I pick it up. Exactly what I thought. Will pick it up tomorrow.

There's no reason for charging any taxes, because nobody knows the value of the package.

When mailing the packages, I had to provide a value. I think I said $10.

Thanks for doing this Duncan. This easily slips under the value required to institute custom charges. Duncan, I made an attempt to providing for costs incurred with shipping. I already have a membership but make the payment to a second membership at PE. These second funds were intended to offset shipping costs.

    Hugues "Trane":

It's the same here in Holland.

It is all a lottery. I have been charged for parcels coming into the UK (when we were still part of the EU) when I should not have been charged. The post office here refuses to release a parcel until the requested money has been paid, so there is no opportunity to see if a mistake has been made. To add insult to injury, the post office charges a fee for collecting the 'unpaid revenue' charged on the parcel, which may be close to 50 per cent of the amount the recipient has to pay.

Now that the UK has left the EU there is even more cost involved for any British record collector who wants to buy from the EU, as Discogs is adding a tax on any item purchase from an EU seller. Where that money goes I have no idea, but it is deducted at source. And I bet there will still be a tax added on via the postal service.
