We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973
wow, no ego there. what the fuck does the guy need 21 people for anyway?
you mean they can't find some other LA hotshot to play warmed over Blackmore riffs?
gimme a break
^ Yep, I have to agree with that. There's no sign of Ritchie anywhere there. Plus, considering the number of guitars Joe tours with, I would expect half of that group to be techs.
Joe is a pretty modest guy. It's not like he has an entourage.
It was a cool idea while it lasted.
There just isn't a market/demand for retro hard rock.
no tunes, no dynamics, no nosebone
I'm surprised they lasted for three albums. I never expected them to go on for more than a few years. Honestly, I thought albums 2 and 3 were dominated by Glenn Hughes. I like Glenn but in this band I wanted to hear an equal amount of Joe's singing and songwriting. Whatever the beef they had was about, Joe's career is bigger than BCC, and Derek and Jason aren't exactley gonna go hungry. It was fun while it lasted.
I just don't see what difference it makes at this point. Yeah, they could find another great guitarist, but it's really just another vehicle for Glenn Hughes. They'd essentially be a backup band for Glenn. Like I said, they recorded 3 pretty good albums. The best one was the first one. The other two didn't have the same vibe (imo) and were more of a Glenn Hughes project. I would've loved to have seen them live but I knew they probably weren't gonna last very long. Joe's career is bigger than BCC right now. And he wasn't gonna play second banana to Glenn Hughes. From everything I've read about the beef he had with Glenn, Joe still admires and respects Glenn.
I recently watched Joe Bonamassa doing an acoustic evening at the Vienna Opera House on PBS, with several other musicians from around the world. He was seated onstage with at least a dozen guitars around him. Someone has to make sure every guitar he picks up is tuned properly. I don't know why he needs 21 people with him, but if that's how many he wants to employ in this world of high unemployment, more power to him. In the article, I liked the way Joe managed to convey why he was leaving the band without pointing fingers and badmouthing his bandmates.

This song kicks ass:
^ Yes, I agree, perhaps the best song BCC has put out.
I have all three studio albums and the live one. I am kind of sad to see them gone. Glenn Hughes is a bad-ass mofo. Exceptional voice, incredible energy at what, 60+, and he needs to be constantly on tour? That's crazy! I would be curious to see if they try to recruit another guitarist and carry on. Bonamassa was perfect, so it will be extremely difficult.
If I were a betting man, I'd bet that the ego of the band was Hughes, not JB. Hell, just look at their personas. Joe is relatively unassuming and Hughes is in-your-face with just about everything.
Based on the liner notes Hughes seems to be pretty fond of Bonamassa, and a little parental toward him.
Read an interesting suggestion earlier today: Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally
i would think that with the pedigree of talent left in the band all they would need to do is grab a guy like say Nuno Bettencourt, or Andy Timmons, or Richie Kotzen, or any other mid-level, out of work rock star (like even the guy from Poison) they could go to the next level.
of course when Led Zeppelin reunites this goose is cooked anyway.
I wouldn't mind if they did another album with some guest guitarists. Imagine having Warren Haynes or Jimmy Page guesting. That would kick. Of course those guys aren't gonna join full time and tour. I'd think they'd want another "big name" guitarist in the band who's firmly rooted in blues/rock and hard/rock.

There are quite a few really really talented blues guys out there right now, that play similar style to Joe and have similar vocals. Shepherd would be one of them. Others I could think of that might work:
Oli Brown
Philip Sayce
Anthony Gomes
Mato Ninji
Or.....think outside the box and go with a woman:
Joanne Shaw Taylor
Samantha Fish
Ana Popovic
I love Bonamassa, but I think the band could continue with someone else in a similar vein.
