An enjoyable watch but no way could I narrow the Rush catalog down to 12 songs.
You say Mega Ultra Deluxe Special Limited Edition Extended Autographed 5-LP, 3-CD, 4-DVD, 2-BlueRay, 4-Cassette, five 8-Track, MP4 Download plus Demos, Outtakes, Booklet, T-Shirt and Guitar Pick Gold-Leafed Box Set Version like it's a bad thing...

I'm honestly not sure what songs but my favourite album is for the first show I saw with the band when they were drawing 3 or 4 thousand in 1976 - 2112. I think Hemispheres follows closely.
What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound (2112)

They better know their Rush. They've spent the last 30 years trying to outdo them at their own game.

i'm gonna do 15 just to make it a little easier (listed chronologically)..

    AFtK - AFtK
Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres - Hemispheres
    The Trees
    LaVilla
    Jacobs Ladder - Permanent Waves
    Tom Sawyer - Moving Pictures
    Red Barchetta
    The Camera Eye
    Subdivisions - Signals
    Afterimage - GUP
    Grand Designs - PW
    Open Secrets - HYF
    High Water
    The Pass - Presto
Between Sun and Moon - Counterparts

i really wanted to add 3 from CPs but was down to 1. luckily i didn't care for RtB or TfE or any of their last 3 albums so that made it a bit easier.

All of Signals (8) + Time Stands Still, The Body Electric, Spirit of Radio, Closer to the Heart.

Okay, the only way I could make this a challenge for myself is to choose 12 songs from the post-Broon era because there's nothing from AFTK through Signals that I could eliminate:

    Distant Early Warning
    The Big Money
    Marathon
    Mission
    Where's My Thing?
    Leave That Thing Alone
    Driven
    How It Is
    Far Cry
    Malignant Narcissism
    Caravan
    Headlong Flight

i was surprised that John picked Mission, that's one of my favorites and under rated.

I'd have to have 12 from the 70's and 12 from the 80's at least but even then there would be too much left out.

i guess i'm the only one who didn't like any of their last 3 albums. to me they were just too samey. not nearly as original as their classic stuff.

The entire discography, and yes, this was hard:

    1) A Farewell to Kings
    2) Hemispheres
    3) La Villa Strangiato
    4) Free Will
    5) The Camera Eye
    6) Vital Signs
    7) The Analog Kid
    8) Chemistry
    9) The Body Electric
    10) Between the Wheels
    11) Manhattan Project
    12) Cold Fire

Some people might look at these choices and go "HUH?" but these are all the Rush songs that are 100% guaranteed to give me an endorphin rush from minute 1 to minute whatever. All the stuff I left off is good too, but it's kind of like leaving off the "85% success" songs for the "100% success" songs.

(Honorable Mentions: "Bastille Day," "Entre Nous," "Countdown," "Distant Early Warning," "Roll the Bones"[yes, even the rap], "Caravan".)
"Arf." -- Frank Zappa, "Beauty Knows No Pain" (live version)

I didn't either, honestly. Each album has about 5-7 songs I'm merely okay with and the rest are disposable:

Vapor Trails: One Little Victory, Ceiling Unlimited, How It Is, The Stars Look Down, Secret Touch
Snakes and Arrows: Far Cry, Spindrift, Hope, The Main Monkey Business, Faithless, Bravest Face, Malignant Narcissism
Clockwork Angels: Caravan, BU2B (and BU2B2), Seven Cities of Gold, Wish Them Well, The Garden.

Also, Test for Echo has not aged well for me either.
"Arf." -- Frank Zappa, "Beauty Knows No Pain" (live version)

Vapor Trails is the only one that i dont like at all, not even one song. After a few years have passed I'm not that keen on a lot of CA either, S&A fares better. My golden era for Rush ends at the the end of the 80's with Presto.

thinking about it now, i'd have to add Driven and Time and Motion from TfE to my list making a total of 17.

No, the last Rush album that I can enjoy from soup-to-nuts is Roll the Bones (and everything prior of course...love all of those albums). Counterparts is where the downfall started for me. I'm ok with it.
