Raiding the Rock Vault (featuring John Payne) in Vegas

So, I was browsing vegas.com for things to do on my upcoming trip to Las Vegas and I came across the show Raiding the Rock Vault at the LVH (formerly the Las Vegas Hilton). Looks like a show where a band made up of former members of bands that mostly made it big in the '80s and '90s play covers of classic rock tunes. Two members of interest in the band are John Payne and Jay Schellen. Also in the band are Howard Leese (longtime Heart guitarist) and Robin McAuley. Probably will try to catch it when I am there.

It's a great time but of course we're a bit biased here. If you're in Vegas check out the Raiding the Rock Vault at the LVH Hotel and Casino, running most nights of the week. It's a real band playing real tracks and it's a good time. It's not prog, but it's a good night out.

AFJP is still active and gigging - we have a show in Orlando April 25 at Hard Rock BTW.

He's not one of the main singers but that said he's the lead vocalist on a couple of songs as well as playing bass through most of the show. He co-wrote the show, co-produced it and is the musical director of the band.

The band also includes Howard Leese from Heart/Bad Company, who was just inducted into the RNR Hall of Fame with Heart, for what that's worth. Tracii Guns is the other guitarist. Former Asia drummer Jay Schellen is the drummer for show as well.

If you look on Trip Advisor or sites like that you can find reviews of what the show is like.

Here's a promo video for the show:

I saw the show a couple of weeks ago. I really enjoyed it. John sang lead on "All Along the Watchtower" and maybe a couple of other songs, and traded lead vocals on a few others. They play the classic rock tunes you'd expect them to do -- Stairway to Heaven and Hotel California were the two big highlights for me. Even a couple of songs from prog bands make it into a medley (won't spoil it).

John is pretty much the leader of the show onstage. I thought Andrew Freeman was the best vocalist on the stage and Tracii Guns was great throughout. The night I saw the show, Joe Lynn Turner was the special guest and he sang Smoke on the Water and Stone Cold.

Here's a link to the photos I took at the show (I was in the second row, stage left):
