Covid-19 - Listening in isolation together

I bought Secret Life a few weeks ago in a second hand vinyl shop and I really like it. Its a strange mixture of typical Stevie songs, ambient and classically tinged instrumentals with a bit of world music thrown in. I bet fans of his hits were completely perplexed when it came out! Well worth checking out.

I have had this album seemingly forever, I absolutely love Stevie Wonder, especially that run of 70’s albums from Music of my Mind through to Songs in the Key of Life. This album, which was the next in sequence, is a huge departure, but is not without merit, but like TFTO (which I adore btw, as you can tell from my PE name), it is a challenging listen to those who loved the melody and soul of that which came before.

I’ve been playing Snarky Puppy’s “Live at the Albert Hall” all week, it is so infectiously cheering, especially the closing guitar solo on Chonks, wonderful stuff!

Oh man, I have this one but haven't listened to it yet. Thanks for the reminder!

Mostly been playing a lot of Keith Jarrett, some Tangerine Dream and a ton of classical music, mainly Beethoven.

And I've been listening to Jarrett's classical output... I mentioned his Shostakovich earlier in the thread but also Handel Suites for Keyboard and JS Bach Viola & Cembalo Sonatas. Nice stuff. Very rare for a jazz player to do classical so well. Wynton Marsalis may be the only other one I'm aware of.

Today I have shifted from Jarrett to the blues- and I have been playing "Fathers and Sons" over and over- the classic with Muddy Waters and Paul Butterfield, Mike Bloomfield, Duck Dunn and Buddy Miles- what a great and uplifting records it is!

It's come to this. 3 years ago I moved from Iowa to Texas, sold my record collection (2000 LPs) and boxed my CDs (3000+). And then just stuck them out on the shelves in no order. Today, I am alphabetizing them and seeing tons of stuff I had completely forgotten about...

One thing I've been doing is visiting used record stores around town, and dropping hundreds of dollars. I want to do my part to make sure they're still around on the other side of this crisis. Or if they aren't around then, seizing one last opportunity to pick through their inventory.

I've thought about doing the same with my CD collection while I'm cooped up at home. When I moved 1 1/2 years ago I did the same thing, just put them in boxes and then onto a shelf with no ordering whatsoever.

I’ve been utilizing the Echo Dot to extremes these days - today I summoned the first 4 Spirit albums - my wife broke down in tears when Nature’s Way came on - the lyrics taking on an extra layer of poignancy in these times. After that we moved on to Focus III and Moving Waves.

One of my best buddies never really fully recovered when I made him listen to Nature's Way. I mean, he was shattered to pieces.
Almost 30 years later, he actually refuses to lisyen to it when there are other people around, because he still "breaks down" every time.

I began today with Jeff Greinke & Anisa Romero's Hana, one of several hundred CDs I possess because of an obscure Yes link. (Davison plays bass pedals on 1 track.) It's like all soothing and ambient. I've now moved on to Fly from Here - Return Trip.

Well, since I've been making home recordings for almost 15 years, I decided to listen to as many as I can..so far, it's been very enjoyable. For example, last night I listened to an IZZ jam, recorded in a coffee shop in New Jersey in 2007.
