The boys are going full-on old-school thrash/ death metal, performing the Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo only. Back to their roots, you might say.

I watched a bit of the live FB feed, and it was brutal, intense, and extremely tight. They were NOT fucking around, with Dave Lombardo and Scott Ian guesting. Even on that tiny rectangular FB-surrounded screen, I got all hyped up and almost solo mosh-pitted the whole house awake.

The final show is in Frisco on my $%*#@ birthday, and I'm really down in the dumps about missing this. This is my favorite band of all time, yet I've managed to miss every single Bungle tour, due to multiple perfectly-timed mishaps, inconvenient commitments & straight-up bad timing.

FWIW, I've been pushing #MakeItATourMrBungle on the twits.

I hope to hear as much as possible about people's impressions of the shows, but we probably won't get much (if any) of that around here.

I booked a trip to LA and SF to see the shows on 2/5 and 2/13. I ended up getting tix for the other two LA shows as well.

Of course, I would have preferred music from DV and California, or new music, etc. But I also appreciate what they're doing. I thoroughly enjoyed every show. 2/5 was special because it was the first. 2/7 had the best energy, imo. They seem to really be enjoying themselves, and that's probably the most important part for me. I'm a big Spruance fan - if he's on board, I can pretty much guarantee I'll enjoy it because his body of work is such a multidimensional puzzle - each piece contributes to the context of it all.

Most of the shows seem to be on YouTube, so there isn't much point of describing them. But feel free to ask me anything.

While this isn't a band to rest on any laurels...i'm not a fan of thrash metal so hard pass for me...if they got the full line-up back together, re-imagined all three of the albums and were working on new stuff i'd be in.

So this thread/gig has me revisiting both Disco Volante and California this week. Both are just killer. There are moments (especially) on Disco that sound like modern composition, not just a weird band from California (if I may make that distinction). That is meant as a compliment, btw. The amount of sonic textures and colors this band implemented was outrageously creative. "The Bends" in headphones is such an intense headphones experience.

IMO - Disco is the most challenging and its density can make it a tough listen for some - you have to be somewhat masochistic to return to the music enough times for a real unfolding

I watched most of the video of one of the whole shows the other night. I was just going to watch a little but made it about 45 minutes in before I had to go to bed. It was really fun. My god, Spruance laying the shred of justice on that guitar...

I'm just not that into that style anymore. I would be more interested in Free Salamander Exhibit, but I passed on that when they were in Mpls (and I had seen Sleepytime gorilla museum 4 times).

And this isn't the Mr Bungle I love the most. I think the first album is still the best.

I am also not drinking the Patton cool aid anymore. I used to think he was able to do no wrong, but tastes have changed.
And this isn't interesting to me.

Two words: I agree! (Alas, that's my one & only short answer here )

I eagerly awaited the release of DV, and found a copy on cassette the day it came out. At the time, I really had nowhere to listen at a proper volume, so I waited until late night and snuck out into the garage to hear it in the car. When the first track, the dank/ dirge-y Everyone I Went to High School With is Dead started up, I was rolling my eyes, thinking, "ahh shit, they're playing the lowest common denominator/ irony card, and this album is gonna suck ass".

Then came Chemical Marriage. My brain did a whoop-de-do 180 upon hearing that uber-spooky Carnival of Souls vibe, and I was hooked. So dammit, I was looping through that damn cassette, obsessively using track search in the garage until the sun came up... listening to some of the stuff like Techno Allah multiple times in a row.

I've been a huge Patton fan since WAY back when I accidentally attended his very first Los Angeles show with Faith No More in 1988. That was back when he was virtually unknown to anyone in my circle, but he clearly displayed a huge voice, massive stage presence & obnoxious star power. That said, I was never Kool-Aid level blinded by his talent. There have been several of his projects over the years that never really resonated with me. Faves are Mr. B, Fantomas, Tomahawk, FNM.

Though I'm guessing you'd disagree, I also happen to really enjoy his brutal 2017 project with Justin Pearson of The Locust, Dead Cross, whom I saw that year at First Ave. with Secret Chiefs 3.

That was the night that I not only shook hands with Trey Spruance, and watched Mike Patton perform live for the first time since the 1988 FNM club gig, I actually began to believe in the evil little version of Tinkerbell who hinted that Bungle may actually be close to reuniting. Like you, I do prefer the WB era stuff best, and I really hope they put together a proper California follow up. (which, no matter what it sounds like, I'm certain will be very much musically improper if it does happen)

BTW, I hate to break the bad news to you that you REALLY fucked up not seeing that Free Salamander Exhibit performance! (assuming it was the 7th Street Entry show?) Between them, Cheer-Accident and Faun Fables, it was one of the most incredible nights of music I've experienced in 40+ years of attending shows. FSE live definitely sported a much heavier Crimson-esque vibe along the lines of SGM's Ambugaton.

So anyway, I had a brief but nice chat with Thymme of C-A that night, and later Nils, who alerted me to the existence of the amazing Rabbit Rabbit Radio project of SGM's Carla Kihlstedt & Matthias Bossi.

My point is, if FSE come back to Minneapolis, I hope to see you there dude!

I'm always amazed at people who take the time to post about why they don't like something - especially in threads like this where nobody asked. I guess it's some kind of self-validation process, but it seems like a waste of time.

I like all genres of music. These Bungle shows were incredible. Stuff of legend.

Where has there been a "well thought out and constructed criticism"? All I've read is people saying it doesn't fit their tastes.

You want criticism? I didn't like that the light show kept blinding the crowd (at least the first night it seemed to happen more than the other nights). It seemed like Patton lost his voice a bit at the 2nd NYC show. Most shows had a mistake or two - usually Lombardo missing a transition - but they recovered quickly and most people probably never noticed.

Bungle has always divided some of their less open-minded fans with each new release. Bungle executed thrash metal quite well at this reunion, that's all that matters. If someone is disappointed in that, that's their problem - not the band's. Seems pointless to take time posting "I don't like it".

And then you imply that those of us who like it are "circle jerking" like it's a bad thing to enjoy something... get off your f'n high horse.
