I am enjoying this. Although it does not break any new ground it is a fun listen all the way through. Thats good enough for me.

These guys are all pretty young. There is still plenty of time for them to experiment a bit more and find their own thing. Talent enough.

I don't at all like the boxy drum sound

I hadn't noticed anything wrong with the drums. What do you mean by "boxy"?

I'd take him over Ed Sheeran or Ariana Grande any day. Actually been to one of his concerts and had a really good time, even though I wouldn't really consider myself a fan.
Absolutely! Sufjan Stevens makes some very interesting and lyrical music which is by no means pop drivel. The OP has probably only a very superficial knowledge of his work...

Hadn't really noticed, but I spun it last night, and you're right, it is incredibly boxy. The snare in particular has no top end at all. In the overall context of the music, it doesn't bug me that much and I actually like that the drums are back in the mix, much more like a 70s recording. But it didn't need to be that boxy sounding. Odd choice, by obviously what they wanted.

No release is indeed pretty bad.

Or, you know, maybe it’s just a style of music you don’t happen to like?
