    Focus, new to me again.

I picked up a 12 disc Focus box set a couple of months ago.
Back in the 70's I had picked up a few albums and enjoyed them. Hamburger Concerto, Ship of Memories, and Moving Waves.
I sort of moved on in the 80's ( post punk, new wave, and all that )

I have really been enjoying them all over again, plus exploring the other albums I missed back in the day.
Some of the newer ones aren't as memorable, but still pretty ok.
Sometimes silly, but often catchy tunes with memorable hooks.

Live at the Rainbow and Hamburger Concerto are my favorites.
The way Akkerman and Van Leer blends classical, rock and jazz elements is pretty unique.
Akkerman and Van Leer didn't like each other, but needed each other in order to produce the best.

I recently picked up Thijs' "Introspection" series of classical albums. Also quite good, better than I expected.

There's also a very good Christmas double LP that van Leer did with the soprano Elly Ameling (though she's only on the first disc). My favorite of his non-rock flute albums.

I considered buying the box. But, after listening to a couple of the early albums and the lesser tracks I wasn't familiar with, I decided that I would be skipping over a bit too much. I love Focus, especially live, and their best work is as good as it gets. Their filler tracks (for lack of a better description) left me too underwhelmed to take the dive.

Yes, a great set from a great band.

I conned a co-worker into giving it to me as a gift so I am happy!

There was another thread 'round here about the set that had some good input about some issues with the sound quality, etc.

What job could that be that 2 people listen to Focus?

    LOL.
She had absolutely no idea who Focus is/was. She is a Country music fan.
She was just happy to have the advance guarantee that I would appreciate her gift.

It's a nice box, though I don't see why they added a Best of compilation.

Probably because a complete-ist would complain.
    or perhaps a car disc.

I'm pretty much a completist, but I would rather have a disc with real bonus material, for instance the shortened versions of 2 songs on the Akkerman Van Leer album. 2 songs were shortened, so they would fit on the vinyl version of the album.
