New Inner Ear Brigade -Dromology on altrOck

It’s been a long time coming, Bill Wolter is pleased to announce that we have finally finished the latest full length Inner Ear Brigade Album - Dromology.
This will be released soon digitally and on the alt rock label form Milan Italy.
While the physical CDs will most likely not be at this show in time (who wants CDs anyhow?) we will have posters and download codes for our album.

But there is eventually a physical rendition in the works - or? I totally dug their debut, so this is anticipated.

Just got it from Bandcamp. Sounds very promising.

Yes, Rainbro was refreshing. And just very, very different in a way. There's the chamber-jazz infusion over slight pop dynamics, some incredible grooves and spicy harmonics. They are sometimes distantly reminiscent of a band like Aquaserge, but still so essentially 'American' in sound.

Rainbro has so many 'Man, I wish I'd written that' moments.

Just listening to the record, very interesting, I hear also influences from Gentle Giant and Echolyn.

Boy does it get better and better - not that it wasnt the first listen! Agree with Udi - didnt know they could step up their game but they did. The horns are fantastic - trumpet solos are kick ass.

I really tried to like this album...it was recommended to me by the mighty Dave, Sr., and I can see the composition quality, and musical skill at work here. I'm just having a hard time with the tone of the singers voice. I'll give it another try.

Well, that is encouraging. I'm up to spin number 2 1/2.

I can understand that. Its odd. It a lot like the vocals on Regal Worm - odd... but once they become more familiar - they are enjoyable. Cardiacs was this same issue for me - now its one of the best things about Cardiacs - Timmy singing.

For me, it's the vocals that grab me right away. If I don't like the vocals on first listen, then it's game over...

The vocals are probably the most RIO-ish in the sound of Inner Ear Brigade. It also took me a couple of plays to get into them but I had that 'problem' with the first album. On the new album I like them straight away.

Speaking about the vocals; on the bands website they mention Alison Niedbalski as being their singer. Also the band pictures on the album artwork show the new singer. The bandcamp page credits Melody Ferris as being the singer and it certainly sounds like the same singer as on the debut.

Did they change singers after recording the album? Maybe the new singer is as good, or even better, then the old one. Still I think this material is not the easiest to sing and Melody Ferris did a great job.

I like it, though I don't think it's going to see as many plays here as Rainbro did.

As for the vocals, I absolutely love her tone (she could sing anything and I'd probably listen), but I can see why it's not for everyone - some of those intervals are really hard to sing!

Indeed, but why would this somehow be a bad thing with listeners?!

I listened to a couple of tracks from the new on on Bandcamp. Sounds good, much like the first album, so I'm going to grab it when it comes out on CD.

As far as the vocals, the only thing that ever bothered me about them was that they sometimes felt a bit too omnipresent in the music. I found myself wanting to hear a different sound and getting a bit of fatigue from hearing the vocals which are very similar from track to track, with the music being very vocal-dense. Over time, this got to be less of an issue with Rainbro, I guess I just got used to it. Last time I spun it, I really enjoyed it. But the quality of the singer's voice, or the melodies themselves never bothered me, in fact I think they're quite great. The vocals remind me of two bands, Saena and Media Banda, though obviously they are not exactly like those two. But those bands frequently pop into my mind often when I'm listening to Inner Ear Brigade.
