Tony Levin was Keith Tippett’s drummer of choice. The other Tony Levin never played with Keith Tippett other than virtually, on the 1991 remix of Bolero or by proxy when Jeremy Stacey did his best Tippett imitations on relevant material…
I have lost count of how many times I've seen him live, starting with Peter Gabriel's first tour... Where he played tuba on "Excuse Me."
Cobra handling and cocaine use are a bad mix.

Just acquired King Crimson: Three of a Perfect Pair, Live in Japan on VHS. Tony sang background vox while tapping around on his Chapman Stick.

Wow. That is a great archival find! TL can obviously jam with the best of them, but I would not recognize that playing as his. His unique style has yet to emerge.
And... The shaved head and mustache is definitely the right look for TL. His hair wasn't doing him any favors.
Incredible, his playing right out of the Jaco Pastorius school. Is the trumpet player Chuck Mangione? Tony has always been a devoted Fender Bass player and shows it here.
Not only young but no mustache and has hair, how someone can change so much through the years, unrecognizable.
Yes, it's Chuck Mangione's quartet with Gerry Niewood (RIP), Tony Levin and Steve Gadd.
Tony Levin and Leland Sklar... They've played with just about everyone who is/was. anyone.
Still alive and well...

Whenever someone asks me, "Who's Tony Levon?" I respond, "Who isn't Tony Levon?"
When I come to think of it, I've been lucky to have seen Tony Levin in five different live configurations and one more coming in the fall:
Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, ABWH, California Guitar Trio (when I met him in person), Stick Men and the upcoming BEAT

I saw his solo band in 2000 with Marotta, Fast and Gress in Chicago. I remember there was a technical glitch during the first song so Tony filled time answering questions he figured people would ask about Gabriel and Crimson. It was when the Construkction lineup was going so Tony said "King Crimson is on tour now in Europe. Robert tells me I'm still in the band..."
"Double Espresso' by the Tony Levin Band is excellent. Fast, Gress, Marotta. Guest appearances by the California Guitar Trio; Pete Levin
