“Remember, if it doesn't say "Cuneiform," it's not prog!” - THE Jed Levin
Any time any one speaks to me about any musical project, the one absolute given is "it will not make big money". [tip of the hat to HK]
"Death to false 'support the scene' prog!"

Happy Family! Yowza!!
Loads of exciting news, I'm intrigued by the new Thinking Plague direction.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?
There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
HAPPY FAMILY! Oh Gawd - one of the most awesome bands of the 90s!
And Bill Pohl in TP! Anything that can aschew a new product from them within three to six years or so would be astonishingly refreshing.
Great information overall (Ergo, Far Corner, Gutbucket...). But nothing immediately concerning Cheer-Accident at the moment, then?

Ian, here's an excerpt form an email I just wrote a friend, which should be of interest:
"Writing new music, and feeling excited about it. Breaking some new ground for me, because I've been unsatisfied with doing sort of more of the same. And because TP has a new 'other' guitarist (Bill Pohl) and is not likely to have a regular full-time keys person. That is causing me to think in terms of an live ensemble of 2 guitars, reeds, and accordion-or-piano (Elaine), as well as bass and drums (that's one configuration). So, I've been writing new material using the guitars as if they were mainly monophonic, like violins (if you use a fuzz, etc.), and this has gotten me writing a lot of chamber-music-like independent lines that, combined, created a harmonic whole. But the "whole" is always shifting and morphing....and that's got me excited. So, like sub-units, trios or quartets of guitars, reeds and keys, accompanied by bass and drums. Certainly, I've had passages like this before, but this new line-up is making me dig more purposefully and deeply into it. Plus I feel that my harmonic 'language' or approach has become more crystalized and almost 'automatic'. Once I set about writing, it just comes. I have to guide or channel it (or not)."
This should not be taken, btw, to mean that TP is NOT going to be an "avant prog rock" band anymore. Not at all. My goal is to show how far so-called "rock" can go in the direction we've been exploring.
Cool -- thanks, Steve.
I have to say that the Janel and Anthony album was one of the nicest surprises for me of the past year or so. Looking forward to a new one (plus all the other groovy stuff going on.)
HAPPY FAMILY!!! Toscco is my all-time favorite Cuneiform release (yet). Wow!

as a personal aside, along with the very surprising return of Happy Family, I thought that this was the most notable/odd/unusual thing in there:
May 16 & 17 - MICHAEL GIBBS and the NDR Big Band featuring Nguyen Le play DARKSIDE OF THE MOON - Hamburg, Germany

Pretty sweet.
TP news seems lovely (esp coupled with what Mike said above). Glad to hear Miriodor's new album is nearing the end. And of course this fabled Far Corner album which I'm glad at least has a title.
I also hope Happy Family records a new record (even if I wasn't completely enamored by theirs thus far).
Please don't ask questions, just use google.
Never let good music get in the way of making a profit.
I'm only here to reglaze my bathtub.
Thinking Plauge in Seattle in June!!!!
I will be definitely be there for that.
SeaProg? Let me investigate!
In the meantime, I will try to catch Ahleuchatistas in Portland in a couple weeks.

Yay! I’ve been waiting for the new Far Corner album for a while!

I will definitely "stay tuned"! I am also asking around on Facebook if any Seattle peeps know what is going on. Cool if it also happens in Oakland. There's some great Prog in The Bay!
Seattle Festival: Thinking Plague is planning to perform at a new festival of contemporary progressive/art rock in Seattle WA, called "seaprog", set for the weekend of June 29/30 this coming summer (2013). Discussions are also underway on a possible similar festival in Oakland CA, either the prior or following weekend. If that falls into place, then Thinking Plague will do a small tour between those two points, through Oregon and norther California, which might include places like Portland, Vancouver, Eugene or Medford OR, Arcata/Eureka CA, etc. Stay tuned at the band's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Think...71672812869502

I may just check out Kandinsky effect's concert in Brussels (Kandinsky is my fave modern painter along with Folon) in late Febr
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
I know the people who are planning it, but am a bit out of the loop on the latest details - I didn't know the name of the festival or the exact dates, for example, or even that they'd been set. The last I'd heard, it was still more in the "serious-talking-about-it" stage than a solid, committed actuality. But that might have changed. Or Mike may have possibly mistaken how far it was along and jumped the gun. OR, as one of the (intended) featured artists, he may know more than I do at this particular moment.
I am involved with Seaprog. It is definitely a "go". There will be a press release about it very soon. Hang in there, we will let you know.
So excited about the possibility of a "SeaProg"!!! Please DO keep us in the loop! If it makes up for my missing RoSFest this year, I will feel better about it.
