Groups with both male and female vocals

I was just listening to Black Mountain and enjoying how well the voices meshed. There's a few alt groups out there that do this now: Arcade Fire, Black Mountain, the Decemberists. Any others I should be aware of?

Stevesly's recent thread about the Civil Wars brought them to my attention. Not so much a group as a folk duo, but great vocals. Their 2011 album, Barton Hollow is worth checking out.

Cirrus Bay (PE's bill g), and you'll forgive the partial nepotism in the band, as there are not 1 but 2 female vocalists and one is his daughter. Bill also sings well (in spite of what he'll say).

The 2 female vox have that "angelic" quality that Amy Darby of Thieves' Kitchen has, and I love that.

Let's see. There was Renaissance, Magenta (the poor man's Renaissance), Gong, Caravan (occasionally), Grateful Dead (at one time), Bruford,

    Does Yes count? (sorry).

I don't know what's wrong here. My post in this thread was misprinted and not by me. I tried to edit it and the same extra word is still there. I've noticed that in other people's posts as well.

Going into New Wave territory: The Human League. In fact, it was the female vocals in that band that turned me onto that group for a time (until they went into "club" territory from synthpop).

i could probably think of a 100 if spent enough time. A lot of good ones already mentioned. It's not a very unique thing which is what I think the OP thought. Talking Heads too, I think - Didn't Tina sing too? The Breeders? Pretty much any band with a female lead but a male back-up band with at least one singer- The Pretenders.

No, I'm not saying its a unique thing, but I think the three alt bands I mentioned mixed it a little different than what we're used to in rock. YMMV

What would narrow it down dramatically would be to only mention groups that has both a male and a female singing lead. Background vox shouldn't count.

The Airplane had 4 people that sang lead.

Well, apart from "The Girls" being one of the common "sweeteners'" in popular music and hence appear somewhere in the mix on countless records across pretty much every genre (for instance on Dark Side Of The Moon, most of Eric Clapton's 70's and early/mid 80's solo bands), ones that come to mind would be:

    Magma
Fairport Convention (at least when Sandy was still with us)
    Steeleye Span
    Thompson Twins

    Mamas and Papas
    Fifth Dimension
    Carpenters

But I guess you were looking for more prog/rock type of groups. Curved Air also had this, now and again.
