    In Memoriam - 2016

Let's face it, 2016 was a bitch and the loss of a number of iconic and influential artists was unprecedented. Here's NPR Music's compendium of who we lost in 2016. It's not complete but hey, at least Keith and Greg both made the cut.

    http://www.npr.org/2016/12/19/505570...-memoriam-2016

But let's use this to remember all of those we lost in this bummer of a year.
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

Let's hope nobody else gets added to that list from now and 31 December.

One of my early musical hero's made that list...Prince Buster. I was a big fan in the early 60's when choice of my music was BLUE BEAT. Got to see him live at Brixton Town Hall in London. BLUE BEAT was very jazzy and pre-dated ska & reggae. Great music to dance to...It was very significant in my life as it was the ONLY music of mine that my dad would listen to, in fact he became a big fan and bought many records for his own collection. RIP Buster!!

It would be weird if in 2017 like only Gilbert Gottfried died...

Supposedly, 2016 is actually no worse than most recent years...only some of the deceased are very famous which makes it seem worse than it is.

RIP vocalist Pete Burns from the band "Dead or Alive", who passed away in Oct 2016...... It sucks that you weren't worthy enough for NPRs list

That would definitely make up for 2016.

Just the first name that came to mind, and I know a lot of people don't like him, though I actually do.

My comment was in jest, but I do think he's a piss.

I think we can all agree, no matter our political or philosophical differences, that the most tragic event of 2016 was how long I had to wait for my UK box set.

True, but it also provided a fair amount of moderately amusing entertainment.

    RIP Baba Booey

Wait - it was Baba Booey who died? I thought Baba Booey was Gary Dellabate?

    JKL2000, Beats me.

I'll defer to your Baba Booey expertise. I saw a headline, "'Baba Booey' from 'Howard Stern Show' dies at 49...".
I never saw the appeal of that show.

Sad to hear this. I somehow stumbled upon The Village to the Vale a couple of years ago, lovely stuff.

I think some of the headlines are a bit confused, but it was almost 30 years ago that I listened to that show.

Joey Boots died; not Baba Booey. Joey Boots was a Stern Wack Packer that was known for his antics of calling in to other programs and yelling "Baba Booey". Fellow Wack Packer High Pitch Eric found Boots dead while on the air. The audio is rather sad, as he discovers Joey motionless and cold in his living room chair.

I wasn't on the '2016 end already!' bandwagon but things are just getting too weird too fast.

A tweet from Wil Wheaton earlier today:
At 11:59pm on December 31, we'll all get a text alert from an unknown source that just says "THE ARISTOCRATS!" and 2016 will make sense.

    seems legit
