So they've released those two albums for a third time?

The original full power came in deluxe packaging ( hard book cover with lots of pages of info) but that is now oop so this is a more basic package, however they took the opportunity to remaster it. I've not heard it myself but people are saying the sound is better, I guess I will pick it up at some point for completeness sake.

Ummm....why does this combo album (originals released in 2012 and 2013) need a remaster? I can understand the need to remix original analog albums from the 60s and the 70s, but 2 or 3 years ago? That seems farcical.

This is what Rob, the engineer said and this has total merit. I'm sure they didn't have cash to invest on the first round.

It has been covered before .... in a nutshell it's taking off any brick wall limiting but now going thru some beautiful valve equipment I have ... nothing was changed as far as the original stereo mix was concerned

Since it was OOP, and they were going to repress anyway, nice to have the greater dynamic range that 'Folklore' offered.

I always thought the sound on EEFP was pretty ideal. It's hard to imagine an improvement, more dynamics or not.

In listening to it recently, I felt that the loud vocal parts were sort of irritating, when at the same time the instruments were loud. Quieter passages sound great. It will also be interesting to hear the full impact of the bass, and bass drums, like that which is heard on Folklore.

I was fine with the sound on EEFP as well, so I don't think I need to pick this one up. But I'm still glad they were able to do this, both for the completists and for the newbies.

Anyone know what kind of packaging it will have? Not that I plan to buy those albums for a third time...

This new remaster has a MUCH higher dynamic range (12 vs 7 for original) and you can hear it immediately. It sounds fantastic!

Next they're going to release the two separate albums again with an additional track on each.

My "Full Power" hurts my ears on headphones. It's mastered too loud. I'll be getting this remaster.

Question about Folklore, why is there a 9 tracks on the CD and 11 tracks on the Band Camp version. Are these
two additional tracts good? There does not appear to be a way to buy these tracks as Bandcamp doesn't see individual tracks
and Itune and Amazon only have the 9 track versions.
    Thanks

You can buy the individual tracks on Bandcamp.

If you hover the mouse cursor over the track name, you should see a link appear to the right that says "buy track".

The extra two tracks were on the Wassail EP and also on the Folklore double vinyl. I programmed a playlist with them inserted in and they work well. I think it's a themed suite centred on London that Greg was primarily responsible for writing

Just to note that these two tracks (Lost Rivers of London and Mudlarks) were also included on the EP "Wassail," released prior to Folklore, which also included the initial release of the track Wassail and a live version of Master James of St. George (presumably from the same sessions at Real World that yielded the Stone & Steel Blu-ray).

I would not argue with an assertion that BBT is releasing the same material too many times in too many ways. They need to find a way to play out more; bands with busy touring schedules -- even a band like Marillion that seems to make every note they play anywhere available for subsequent sale -- rarely releases the same tracks more than once.

You have a point as far as the English Electric releases are concerned. I have respectfully disagreed with their strategy from the start: why release the double set with additional tracks and an altered tracklist, billed as the so-called definitive version, barely a year after volumes 1 & 2 were issued? If that version is how they envisioned the album, this is how it should have been released in the first place. As far as I'm concerned, I could never get behind Full Power and stuck with Volumes 1 & 2 because I'm just too familiar with them.

For Folklore, the issue was different. They wanted to release it on vinyl but the album only filled 3 sides. They did not want the 4th side to include tracks that would be otherwise unavailable for those who don't buy vinyl, so they used the 2 tracks previously released on the Wassail EP. I guess they decided to also include these 2 tracks on the download to give them a bit more exposure, but the vinyl format is what explains their addition originally. They had done the same thing when English Electric was released on vinyl: they used older tracks from The Underfall Yard to fill the 4th side. As someone who doesn't buy vinyl, I agree with that strategy.
    Not just a Genesis fanboy.

I have the original LPs, but I think I'm going to grab one of these as well.

Big Big Train English Electric Full Power Remaster

At the end of the day we have to realise that BBT is part of the prog cottage industry and needs to make sales to advance. There personnel numbers are larger than many bands, and so touring is expensive and not really viable, plus they come with a brass ensemble too. I think the special event gigs (Kings Place last year and Cadogan Hall next) are a way to connect with as many as possible, but as they are UK centric, it does make it onerously expensive for their non UK fans to attend. Live albums and DVDs will possibly ensue, and you could argue that the same material is being sold all over again, but it does help the wider world audience to get a flavour of events. However we all have choices in the matter, and if it helps fund them to further glory, then I'm all for it.

I wasn't going to get this EE remaster, but reading comments of some on the web, it does appear the sound is better, so I probably will pick it up, and help them along their road too.

Actually, the more I think about it... I may get the new remaster too.
