Thanks for the heads up Steve!
I really enjoyed this. Styx can still bring it live.

Thanks I am recording it on Sunday before the Pro-Bowl.
Thanks. I watched this last night and enjoyed mostly the songs I've never seen them play live. It was cool to hear Tommy Shaw essentially say he was inspired by Kansas before writing Man in the Wilderness, which adds a new context to it.
So highlights to me were Man in the Wilderness, Castle Walls, Lord of the Rings, Queen of Spades, and Pieces of Eight/Aku Aku.
Did anyone get the sense that Gowen's voice was being autotuned a bit either live or after the fact? There was something about it I couldn't quite put my finer on.
WANTED: Sig-worthy quote.
I did NOT like that lead singer. The dancing was ridiculous. He was off pitch much of the time as well. Who was that guitarist who looked like he had Botox way too many times? He looked like a statue.
Also, if you're going to re-create the feeling of playing the album on vinyl back in the day, you shouldn't use a turntable made in the 90s.
I'm not really a Styx fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed their Palladia show. They still can do what they did back then, they're having fun, and the four-part vocals were excellent. If that's their original drummer he hasn't lost a beat since the late 1970s. Very nice work by all five guys.
And isn't it about time Palladia filmed some different acts? This was refreshing.

I thought he sounded pretty much like he always does, although with most of these films (this one is a DVD) they do some "fixing" to the vocal track afterwards, so there may have been some of that going on. I did not see this exact tour, but saw this version of the band in the last year or so and they sounded extremely good.

I think Todd Sucherman is a great drummer, but I recently picked up their "Regeneration" discs (volume I and II) and while his performance is certainly more than competent and technically impressive, in some cases it lacks a certain feel the original recordings had. At times he simply plays too much. But I can always go back to the original albums if I want...
I just watched it and thought it was great.
Another thanks for the alert! I DVRd it last night and plan to watch tomorrow... that show came to town and I missed it.
saw Styx open the 2011 US tour with Yes as the headliner and they sounded amazing. even if they replaced one or two since the 70's they nailed it the night I saw them.....Put Yes to shame......
The show was definitely pretty good (maybe a little fluffy), and very enjoyable to hear stuff they never play live, like "Man In The Wilderness". However, the presentation also rubbed me wrong with the photoshopped images in the background depicting the current band within the original artwork. Only two guys (with Panozzo special guesting) on stage had anything to do with those albums. I'm sure Denis DeYoung wouldn't allow his image be used, or maybe they would have to pay him something or whatever, but I don't know, it just seemed disrespectful & lame to me. If you're paying tribute to the albums, present the history with facts, not a doctored version of it.
I read the Styx Wiki (yeah, I know ) and it claims DeYoung has been deleted from the band's Website history page entirely. That seems f*ing ridiculous and honestly I don't really like the guy (as a frontman anyway, he was actually a good keyboard player) *lol*
Anyhoo, the show was good- a little cheesy posturing but musically sound. I kind of think Gowan is a bit of a douche as a stage presence but his singing and playing are first rate. Tommy Shaw is outstanding and JY is orders of magnitude less annoying than in the old days.

Really enjoyed hearing some stuff that probably hadn't been played in over 30 years. They are a strong band, live.
I watched a bit of it, too. They can certainly still play and sing well. James Young's mugging and posing is very annoying. But, I expected that going in. Amazing how good Shaw still sounds.
If there's one thing to be said for Styx, whether you love them or detest them: no one can ever say they don't bring it live.
They bring it. Every night, every tour, year after year after year, decade after decade after decade.
