You too, can bid on items once found (somewhere) in the Laurel Canyon abode.

It's sad really. I can think of rather better uses for the house (for sale now) and the effects than selling it off for quick $$$

Lady GaGa already bought the house.

I can think of no one acceptably weirder, than maybe Mike Patton or Emo Philips - or Jesus Christ with a shotgun - to embrace the legacy in the bones of that manor.

I did not Know that (just got back from a 2 week trip)

It could have turned out worse, I suppose.
Hope she enjoys (and spends more than 2 weeks a year at) the new home. . .

The auction also includes memorabilia and personal items that document and celebrate the career of Frank Zappa and his love story with Gail. This includes a Dandies Fashions coat worn by Frank Zappa on the July 20, 1968 cover of Rolling Stone magazine; a purple ribbed turtleneck worn by Frank Zappa in 200 Motels (United Artists, 1971); a stage worn vest that Zappa also wore on the back cover of the 1972 album Waka Jawaka; a collection of career related awards presented to Frank Zappa including various Gold records, a National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Lifetime Achievement Award, a GRAMMY® nomination plaque; a clay Thing-Fish model; a ukulele featured on the Thing-Fish album cover; and a collection of hotel keys collected by Frank and Gail in their travels.
    What, no hotel towels???

Man, talk about GAUDY! I thought some of his album covers were just weird for the sakeof selling albums. This guy was nutso. Musical genius, but certified looney.

Wow, they're auctioning off the script to my favorite ever Saturday Night Live skit: NIGHT ON FREAK MOUNTAIN, from Mr. Z's appearance in 1978. (page 165 of the Juliens catalog).

Page 213....not one but TWO Yamaha CS-80's up for auction.

also the Frank Zappa "Russian nesting dolls" look pretty cool as a coffee-table conversation piece.

That particular area is extrememely expensive. It's not being sold for QUICK money, it's being sold for SERIOUS money.

^To stimulate bidders into spending more than they might be inclined to, and let them feel like they got a bargain when they win it for less.
Insurance also probably figures into that somehow, somewhere.

Then again, I dunno about you, but I'd pay upwards of $17,009 for a dress knitted by Diva, who I never heard of until maybe 5 years ago and who has contributed 0% to the musical legacy of Frank Zappa.

One conclusion: the Zappas were into kitchy tchotchkes.

Especially when you add in the 25% Buyers Premium ON TOP of your auction price. Yikes

    And...

Winning bidders are responsible for all costs to ship their items. Shipping is not included in the price of your auction item(s). Please review the shipping terms for the each auction as Julien’s may ship the property or they may contract with an outside shipping company such as Artpack to ship your property.
Hmm, pay my credit card debt or bid my life savings on some papier mache tigers? Decisions, decisions...

FWIW, those are industry standard policies for auction houses, and a requisite for bidding. You pay the premium for them to come up with that glossy catalogue

I'll take your word for it. I've never bid on an online auction, and I'm not likely to start anytime soon.

The Z's should be buying our crap, given all the money we've been sending their way for decades.

Yeah, I've bought every single ZFT release, but do you think Ahmet has bought any of my albums?

Today marks the first anniversary of Gail Zappa's passing. R.I.P., Gail, you left a very weird legacy.

The Zappas seem to have burned through a ton of cash -- both before Frank passed (which is somewhat understandable, given the cost of touring and building a studio) -- and after his passing (which is a little harder to explain).

I don't know what's so startling about that (although I was thinking of FZ releases only, not the handful of non-Frank stuff they've put out). I've bought every new Zappa album as they came out since 1970. Naturally I've continued my interest with the posthumous releases. And it's not like there's been such a huge number of them--nothing like the flood of King Crimson or Grateful Dead archive releases that their respective organizations have been pumping out--although it does look like the post-Gail regime is ramping things up release-wise.

$20 per slap. The line would go around the block.
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

I wonder how many of these guitars were given to Dweezil and repossessed?
