That is not for me. My ashes will be flushed down to Hudson river. It is all ok now, once the Clear Water Act has been repealed.
I've already planned for ashes to be tipped into the sea from the balcony of the Bay Hotel in Robin Hoods Bay in North Yorkshire.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?
There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
I'm one of the 212.
Kay had asked that in the event.... her ashes be scattered around the U of Wisconsin campus, which turned out to be a bit of a chore (it's actually illegal-at least here in Madcity), but that didn't stop me.
Since the only one of my 5 kids that's ever seen where I grew up is my 40 year old when he was not yet 3, I told my kids that when they get my ashes back from the university (I donated my body to UW Medical School-figured it was a posthumous teaching gig) that at least one of them had to go to Sunnyside, Queens and scatter them on the street I grew up on, paying particular attention to scattering some of them in the front yard of the house I grew up in. I even told them that it was fine with me if they pooled some of the money I'm leaving to them to finance the trip for someone to go if life gets in the way of them doing an en masse pilgrimage w/the grandkids, which isn't realistic.
I'm nothing if not idiosyncratic.

IMO - don't bother with the AARP.
I joined 10 years ago, and have never yet been asked for my card, nor have I had any advantage from the membership.
I have a list of places that give good discounts to geezers - will find it and post it here. (And I have NO shyness about asking for the senior discounts! )

Duncan

When i hit 62 i opted to get my SS benefits and i qualified for senior discount at my local Fairway mega supermarket.I do enjoy saving a few bucks on my weekly grocery shopping.Fairway restricts the senior discount to only Tuesday and Wednesday.Don't ask me why.
I told my brother and sister i wish to be cremated.I'm going to alter my will to reflect this.I suggested to Fred and Sandy that they equally divide my ashes and build a shrine to me in their respective living rooms.Every Dec 1 on the anniversary of my birthday they must say prayers to me and sacrifice a goat in my honor.A ram will also suffice.

Thanks for the list Duncan! Nice to see that I can take advantage of some of these at the spry young age of 55!!!
A Comfort Zone is not a Life Sentence
The thing with me about not taking advantage of the senior discounts is not so much embarrassment, it's just not wanting to deal with asking for the discount and probably having to show my ID just to save a buck. I don't really ever eat out, and I don't really need a discount. Now, if the pubs would give me a senior discount on pisswater I'd be all over it.
I'm joining AARP just for the Greyhound Bus discount and the free Sunday night at a Motel 6. That's a weekend right there.
Thanks for the list of Senior Discounts, Duncan.
Frog in boiling water
I was looking for a synthesizer,so, naturally, i auditioned an AARP synth.
Thank you, drive home safe.

You know yer old when you love watching golf. Watching the Masters right now.
I'm watching The Masters, and I'm not old!!!!
Oh, wait - I'm nearly 60
Actually, I was at the masters about 10 years ago ... and that's my excuse for watching it. That - and the fact that it's the best damned golf on the planet.

Duncan
You are old when you start to think that a cardigan is a garment that could look good on you.
Your ancestors invented the modern game of golf, did they not?
