    Brain Salad Surgery reissue 2016

This just popped up on Amazon and I assume is the reissue following on from the debut, Tarkus and PAAE that are out at the end of the month.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here is the track listing across the two discs:

    Disc: 1
    1. Jerusalem
    2. Toccata
    3. Still... You Turn Me On
    4. Benny The Bouncer
    5. Karn Evil 9 1st Impression, Pt. I
    6. Karn Evil 9 1st Impression, Pt. 2
    7. Karn Evil 9 2nd Impression
    8. Karn Evil 9 3rd Impression

    Disc: 2
    1. Karn Evil 9 3rd Impression
    2. Jerusalem
    3. Still... You Turn Me On
    4. Toccata
    5. Karn Evil 9 1st Impression, Pt. I
    6. Karn Evil 9 1st Impression, Pt. 2
    7. Karn Evil 9 2nd Impression
    8. Karn Evil 9 3rd Impression
    9. Excerpts From Brain Salad Surgery
    10. When The Apple Blossoms Bloom In The Windmills Of Your Mind I'll Be Your Valentine
    11. Brain Salad Surgery
    12. Brain Salad Surgery
    13. Karn Evil 9 3rd Impression

So, anyone any idea which mixes/versions we are going to get?

Did ELP switch record labels/distribution again? This looks like the same (Jakko J. mix) package from a year or 2 back?

I think they are 2 cd versions, one with the original mix and one with the SW or JJ mix.

Some people seem to have a problem with another re release. It makes perfect sense when the previous versions have sold out.

Steven Wilson never remixed this. I'm not sure what went on there but he exited the picture after doing the first two...maybe the 'Unknown Ballad'/Tarkus thing had something to do with it?

So true, and more than one time too many. ELP is my favorite band, but one could fill a shelf with all the re-issues...

I have never really picked up any of the myriad of reissues so these will do for me.

Call me over-sensitive but are we having some reissue fatigue here...?

A few of the reissues have been kinda f'ed up, I must say. I have a picture sleeve CD that's missing some music at the beginning....

I'll wait until next year's reissue on another label that includes mixes by Steven Wilson & a remix of the Wilson mix by Eddie Jobson in his newly patented "Shrill zeal-o-tone".

There's still 2 reissues in between that one

And I have that reissue of BSS on the Castle Communications label, IIRC, that uses the wrong mixes, with alternate vocals on a couple of the tracks.

Yeah, I know you are all bored of this shit but, on the basis of these links:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brain-Salad...+salad+surgery

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brain-Salad...+salad+surgery

do either of these feature the Jakko remix?

Why do they keep presenting "Karn Evil 9 1st Impression" in two parts? Dumb.

Because some people, like me, occasionally only want to hear Part 2 and don't feel like having to scroll through 8 minutes + of Part 1 to get to it. I've got reissues where all three Impressions are one track, that's *really* annoying.
    ...or you could love

I thought I heard he said he never cared for anything ELP did after Tarkus, and therefore had no interest in working on any of the subsequent albums. Either that or he got too busy working on the Tony Orlando & Dawn catalog.

I've got the version that came out in the mid 90's on Rhino, with the three 3-D cover that morphs between the two different Giger paintings, and the "making of" interview bonus track. Is there really anything on this package that's actually worth spending the cash on.

Maybe because that's how it appeared on the original 1973 album.

Is there a website that breaks down ELP's entire CD reissue history?

I think that would break the internet.

Wow - different strokes. I LOVE those all as one versions, cuz that's the only way I want to hear this composition. But to each their own.

The Steve Wilson remixes of the first album and Tarkus are absolutely worth it, as are most of the Wilson remixes of other bands I've heard so far. The Jakko BSS though I have to say is inferior to the original mix, which was already fabulous. I don't have 5:1, so I can't judge that, but I found the Jakko stereo mix drowned in reverb (especially vocals, which didn't need any more than the heavy reverb it already had), and annoying alterations in detail. The original mix was quite perfect for the album.

What are the alterations on the BSS remix? I don't have that one but just have the original BSS on vinyl.
