    R.I.P Pete Fountain

One of the best clarinetists ever. As a kid I loved his Dixieland licorice stick.

I was not too familiar with his music as I'm not too much of a Dixieland fan - but I must admit he had a beautiful tone and great control. Its always enjoyable to hear someone who has mastered his/her instrument and Pete Fountain definitely was in that class.
Here's a nice clip from a Johnny Carson Show -it shows his range and his craft which should be just enough for some people to leave it at that or go search for some more. Even though I enjoyed it, I am probably in the former category.

Saw him and Al Hirt together in 1980 in Detroit. Quite a thrill for a young adult to add that duo to the list of music legends I'd seen.

Haven't spun any of his vinyl in a long while.....overdue now.

My brother Freddy was a clarinetist from 3rd grade through junior high. Pete was his hero.

Looking forward to my day in court.
