Wouldn't this deserve its own thread

MC5 and the Detroit scene was important enough to be at least a side issue on a prog site like ours
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

I agree, but I am often surprised by some of the musicians that get just the briefest mention here on PE when they die. It's all down to perspective I suppose.

    R.I.P. Vitalij Kuprij

Ukrainian keyboardist - known for his solo albums, as well as bands Artension and Ring of Fire. He has also been a touring member of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra since 2009. Sudden heart attack at 49 years old. Though he never did "prog" per se - he was always prog-metal or classical - he was probably the most talented keyboardist I had ever met. Some called him "Yngwie on the keys", but he was so much more than that. And just a lovely guy - an over-the-top fun personality and lived life to its fullest. He had most recently joined up with Circle of Sanity, a band based in Pennsylvania, and had just released their first single with him involved, and was working on tracks for the album until the wee hours of the morning, before passing later in the day.

A great solo spot from his days with Ring of Fire:

Jim Beard passed away, I am shocked by how young he was, it seems like I've been a fan my whole adult life, and I'm older than Jim. He will be missed.

I read about this earlier today. That's tragic. I have many albums featuring his excellent playing.

Damn it. He was still performing, and was in relatively good shape as far as I could tell. I wonder what happened?

Cancer. Announced last fall, with all shows rescheduled (and now, sadly, cancelled altogether).
