Here's the news Jobson posted on the Zealots-site:
UK BOX SET
Globe Music has entered into a new distribution deal with Alliance Entertainment for all future releases, including the Ultimate Collector's Edition UK box set which is now scheduled for an April 12th release date. The recommended retail price set by Alliance and reflected in Amazon's current pricing is $169.99. As it is not legally appropriate for me to undercut the retailers, we must raise the price on the now-public Zealots Lounge to $160.00, plus shipping, starting on Friday February 12th. The Full Members' price for new box-set purchases will also increase to $125. All previous box set purchasers as part of the Z-Funder campaign will still receive the complete 16-disc box set, a savings for many of a whopping $95 off the retail price, in addition to receiving free shipping. This is in appreciation for your early support and investment in the project. Thank you.
The detailed contents, as reflected in the 'Abbey Road' video (see the Video page) have now been officially released to the retailers. In addition to the highest quality remasters of U.K., Danger Money, Night After Night (with 50 minutes of additional music), as well as the Reunion double CD, there will be an interviews disc and an outtakes-and-extras disc, including Terry Bozzio and myself recording some of the drum parts on Danger Money, which is a lot of fun to listen to. I am also including four radio broadcasts - three of the original band performances with Bruford and Holdsworth, plus the final 1979 concert of the Jobson-Wetton-Bozzio trio performing in Holland; and I am preparing what may end up being four separate 16-page books containing 4 discs each, telling the complete story of UK. In terms of stereo audio, this will indeed be the definitive Ultimate Collector's Edition.
Available now on the store.
I'll have to buy at least nine copies of this to tackle my interest. Does it contain that extended, 3-CDs long rendition of "Nothing to Lose"? Dunno if I can live without it much longer.
Just don't make any New Music any time soon, Jobby.
"Improvisation is not an excuse for musical laziness" - Fred Frith
"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
From what I can tell - it looks like two of those shows are soundboards or pre-FMs - Cleveland and Philly - and most likely the Boston one (could be wrong about Boston though) - I have copies of the other two and they're respectable listens although the mixes might be odd here and there.
Ok... missed the post above with the notes about the Radio broadcasts.
You think 169 is steep? I decided NOT to get it and was automatically charged 5 dollars to Jobsons account.
yup
I just looked at my receipt and it's there:
"Z-Funder "Box Set" [UK Collection Pre-release] 2-ZFund $75.00 $75.00 "
--------
asfaras "why would they release a boxset of a band that only had 2 releases??!!! etc etc" . . . not sure how one can't see that this is a completely a boutique item from people whom it's targeted for. after all it's being remastered as well which shows care. if you don't like it you're not gonna buy it after all
I assume that the 'bootlegs' within are reclamations of oft manufactured bootlegs. at least the artist will be able to make a buck or two from these
So back when this was first announced, Eddie offered a "musician" level set with the box and a book of his personal UK transcriptions for $125. As a keyboard player, I think I'm getting a fantastic deal. $169 is a LITTLE steep, but this is obviously a niche product, so I'm not surprised.
Possible...this is....how?
I've got the 2 studio albums, how does he get a 16 cd box out of their limited output?
Man, I'd sure like a standalone version of the expanded NaN.
The Boston show is cool. I think I have that on cassette somewhere. Is that the one where Wetton keeps saying "sorry about the weather"?

If you search for Chicago weather "july 20, 1978", the first two links are temperature and precipitation data for that day and the 3rd is a page about the UK boot, where it's (erroneously AFAIK) claimed that the theater is an outdoor venue.

Did they play the Sahara of Snow on any of those shows in the box. I think they played that live...
So he's releasing 16 CDs, and none of them is Zinc?

And yet, the basic CDs of the core albums have been out of print for some years.
I've got details of that and other Crimson mega-boxes at http://www.bondegezou.co.uk/wnalum.htm#bruford There was improv in places in the THRAK shows, but there's a lot of THRAK BOX that is the same material in pretty minor variations! Well, I wasn't mad enough to go buy it, so I don't know for sure... And, yes, it's got studio outtakes.
But so does the UK box! And, actually, there's a certain amount of variation in UK's live performances, particularly by the quartet. I'm all for live UK releases: some bands, some music, works better live and I think the quartet's live shows blow the studio album away.
But, as I said, not for me. Too much other stuff in this box I can't see as exciting.
