They are in great company! (Mine is 5/22)

We often talk about the Prog Big 5 in terms of bands their influence on the genre and music in general. Rarely, at least that I notice, do we talk about the Prog musicians that were influential in our lives. I am a keyboard player and naturally gravitated to them, so Wakeman has always been a hero. Early on, King Crimson era during my mid-teens, I noticed Bruford as a super creative and progressing drummer. Through my 30's he was the musician I had seen the most live.

To two of the musicians so influential to me, Happiest of 72nd Birthdays!!

I've always enjoyed this chain of consecutive birthdays: Eno (15) who played with Fripp (16) who played with Bruford (17) who played with Wakeman (18).

In honor of both of them, here's the cover of "Long Distance Runaround" which features on our new Screenplay 2CD set:

Wow they seemed so older than me back in the day, but were only 9 years older.

Nine years is huge between an 11 year old and 20 year old. Between 61 and 72 not so much. I experienced the exact same feeling as you.

Same thing I tell my kids - 3 years apart. Feels huge when you are little - that goes away as early as once people get to their 20s - Difference between, let's say, 21 and 24 years old ? not really!

Happy B-Day to the ones that got away in Yes - here's to many more to come.

I've got Charlie Watts, Michael Steele (Bangles), and Lydia Lunch...plus Sir Edward Elgar, the Marquis de Sade, and Jerry Mathers as the Beaver.
