Well, my team ceased operations in 1978, so I'm not as excited as I might be otherwise, but the Jackets are one of the 3 teams I root for now, (taking a cue from Ian,) and the only one left standing. I'm happy as a clam.

So it is now Jackets vs winner of Leafs/Bruins? Somehow I thought the Caps were a higher seed....

    Islanders played well.

LEAFS tonight.....lets make it 3-1. I like the commercial with Marner and Matthews.

I expect the Caps to prevail in their series regardless, but tonight's Leafs/Bruins game is the series imo... Leafs go up 3-1 and they will prevail, Bruins tie it up and regain home ice? I think they ultimately win it.

If the Caps win their series, I will be <swallows lump> on team Islander for one more round.

The Caps played their worst game of the year and the Canes played their best game. The officiating didn't help, the announcers didn't understand why they stopped calling penalties on the Canes. Maybe things will go back to normal Thursday.

As a Rangers fan, I was kinda pulling for guys like McDonagh, Girardi, Strahlman & Callahan. On the other hand, I like the fact that the Lightning went all in trading for guys that were supposed to help them get over the hump and they get swept in the first round by a team winning it's first ever playoff series. And I have always been a Torts fan, even when he won it with Tampa. And the Penguins getting swept? Best news all day. Even if it was the Isles that did it.

    Isles did their job,
    as did CBJ (Torts.....shudder....),
now Canes need to step up and do their part.

I meant to ask your opinion of that. And I was afraid of that response.

The hiring has met with lukewarm enthusiasm 'round here.

No reseeding or 'floating bracket' in the NHL so, yep, they get the winner of Boston-Toronto.

In other news that should hopefully surprise no one...go Avs.

We haven't gotten a whiff of the playoffs in years so I'd forgotten that. One more season on the outside looking in and Esther will have to explain to me what the playoffs are and how they work.

Gladly! It's a nice role reversal for me.

He tends to rely heavily on veterans to the point of insanity He does coach a run and gun style which I do like, but needs the right parts. The Philly faithful will not like his pacifist ways in terms of the physical game. It may work. I hope it doesn't of course , but it may be a good fit with that group.

When the Leafs scored twice to make it 5-4 in P3, I thought the planets were aligned and they were gonna force an OT....but I was wrong. Great game though.

^ The Leafs goaltending let them down last night. Too many bad goals to win.

I believe that was the pivotal game. Bruins will prevail. I don't think the Leafs have the intestinal fortitude to bounce back. May I be proven wrong, however...

"If I had just traded Panarin for picks, and Bobrovsky for picks, everybody in our fan base and city would've said, 'F---ing Blue Jackets, that's all they ever do is trade for picks and they tell us we're going to be good in the future, just wait, be patient.' No, we wanted to send a message to the fan base and the locker room at the deadline that we're serious about winning. If it doesn't translate to winning, hey, I'll take responsibility." -- Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen, summing up what the Blue Jackets' first-round upset means to Columbus.

I thought the same thing. We were sitting near the Boston net last night, and close enough that you could recognize the players by their faces. We had a great view of all the action and their loss was not for lack of trying in the third. You could see their energy shift into overdrive when the third Leaf goal was scored. It was an exciting period with a shitty ending.

The Leafs are playing with so much heart that I'm not counting them out yet.
