Bands you discovered thanks to PE

    Vietgrove
    Mars Hollow
    Pinnacle
    Relocator
    Haken

All of these have gained repeated listens. One of the above has been played so much I had to actually force myself to give it a rest. So despite the occasional flame war, I'm really glad I joined up!

Kestrel is one I inexcusably missed over the years, had never heard of them until the thread on PE2

It has become on of my favorites as far as times spun the past couple of years

    Thanks to PE:

    District 97
    Mars Hollow
    Wobbler

...are the three I was most impressed with and went out and bought CD's by, but there have been many I've yet to dig deeper into.

A very very long list for me. Probably easier to say I discovered pretty all of my Avant, Zeuhl, Chamber Rock, Krautrock, Canterbury, Italian, Prog Metal, Post Rock, Modern Jazz & Fusion primarily due to this place. That probably adds up to 300 or so bands.

Suffice it to say, lots and lots of stuff, in various genres.Thank you ,members of PE.

I don't know exactly what bands I'd have found out through PE or another site (RYM, PA or Rock6070) or some mags or fanzine, so giving a list of them would be pointless

Before PE I knew Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, VDGG, PFM, Camel, ELP, Tull, Pink Floyd, Gentle Giant, Dream Theater, and Shadow Gallery. Every other band that I have or seen other than those are because of PE (bastards!!!!! You've extended my retirement date!!).

My story is very similar I was pretty much limited to Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Tull, Gong, Hawkwind, Crimson before here.

Nothing really... but anything modern prog groups (to be defined) post-2004 is not necessarily discovered via the web either

I found out about 98% of 60's & 70's jazz, prog or rock through or by myself and friends (and the Borderline books of Joynson and Asbjornssen) well before I started to surf around daily in early 2004... I knew of most of the 80's and 90's main prog groups well before my web days... so that takes care of that as well...

So it comes down to new since 04 artistes, but even then, a lot of it is not through the web...
ex: Aranis was a personal recommendation from Daniel Denis (UZ)himself (he actually gave me his concert ticket, because he couldn't go himself)
ex: I distinctly remember Manogurgeil was a recommendation from my best buddy (I think he'd heard of them through their MySpace back then) >> I did order it through the web, though
    etc....

So I couldn't possibly remember what band I discovered through PA or PE (sorry, this doesn't mean I'm not grateful towards PE or PA or RYM for what I have discovered here or there... but I simply don't keep track)... despite I'm sure there are some/a Few that could be if I went through my helves and started wondering about how I got into them... therefore listing them seems painstakingly and pointless o me

Way too many for a comprehensive list, and not just prog: blues, jazz, classical

    This past year there was:

    The Pineapple Thief
    Big Big Train
    Astra
    The Future Kings of England
    Vietgrove
    Lo-Fi Resistance
    Glowsun
    My Sleeping Karma
    Dissonati
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

Quite a few, too many to list. But off the top of my head:

    National Health
    VDGG
    Anglagard
    Astra
a bunch of Krautrock like Amon Duul, Hoelderlin, Ash Ra Tempel
and Italian stuff: PFM, Area, Banco, Goblin, Hostsonaten, La Maschera Di Cera, etc.
    Spock's Beard
    ECM stuff & jazz stuff
Psych stuff: East Of Eden, The Free Design, West Coast Pop Art Band,

That comes close, but Richard PM'd me on PA, not PE

Astra is probably one of them, but again, where exactly?? Ditto for Kotebel??
