    Bands Once Established, Changed Dramatically

Now some bands may have sounded different after their first album, that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about bands that had an established sound/style over several albums and built a following on it, then changed into something very different.

    Genesis (obvious one).
    Fleetwood Mac.
Pink Floyd (the Syd era sounds nothing like the post-Syd era).

    others?

I could list a TON of 70s Funk bands, including Cameo, Slave, etc, but drastic lineup changes seemed to be par-for-course for those groups

I don't think this is very interesting unless you go with bands that formed after 1980. Almost all of the bands that formed in the 1960s and pre-punk 1970s chaged their sound through the years, because music as a whole was changing.

    The Beatles, definitely.

I purposely did not list Porcupine Tree because I have a problem with the word "established". Although roughly speaking I think their output can be categorised into three musical periods, I don't think they ever stayed with one type of sound long enough for people to get used to it.

T Rex are a possible candidate. Their early albums were more in the psych-folk vein than the glam rock style for which they later became known.

I'm only going to list bands that I heard the change in, in real time.

Terrorvision - went from a good hard rocking debut to a rather boring indie grungy follow up
Clearlake- went from a beautiful weird and enchanting Cardiacs inspired debut (which Cardiacs themselves were fans of) to rather boring indie pap follow ups
Porcupine Tree - went from being an interesting festival friendly acid-psych-space rock band to being a rather boring indie pop band
Radiohead - went from being a quirky rock band to being a boring pop band

Yes, but their sound changed drastically over time.....Granted, that had more to do with technological advancements than personnel changes, but there is a huge difference just in the ten years between "Speak n Spell" and "Violator", let alone the twenty years since

Yea..I see what you're kind of getting at, but the general dark moody synthy vibe has always been present. I mean they didn't do a Human League and go from being a dark, moody synth band to being a vanilla pop band.

Nobody listed The Moody Blues (unless I missed it)?
