First album to listen to in 2013

After a very nice NewYearsEve with friends and nice discussions, I got up this morning and played Aranis' Songs from Mirage.
What a great way to start 2013!

Happy new year to you all, my fellow prog lovers!

    Cheers, Peter

John Abercrombie Quartet - Arcade, Quartet and M. While not strictly for pleasure, as I'll be doing the liner notes for ECM's upcoming box set that will see these on CD largely for the first time (Arcade was briefly available in Japan a few years ago), listening to them is always a pleasure. I'm totally chuffed to be doing the liners, as these three recordings were really, really meaningful to me back in the day, sound as fresh as ever today, and will be great to have on CD in properly digitally mastered form (they're not going with the Japanese master of Arcade; they're remastering/mastering the whole lot)/

The only three records (other than his duo with Towner, Five Years Later) that have never been widely available on CD (if at all), I think this will be an important box that fans of Abercrombie who aren't aware of them really need to hear. The quartet - with pianist RIchie Beirach, bassist George Mraz and drummer Peter Donald - is my favorite group of John's outside his recent quartet with Mark Feldman and organ trio with Dan Wall.

The plan is to be out in the mid-to-late spring

It just seems .....right(for me) to start the new year with Indian classical music.

Black Sabbath TYR. No reason for this choice in particular. I was surfing youtube and someone had uploaded the whole thing. Pretty good album acually... very? early prog metal.

I listened to Weather Systems by Anathema but it wasn't a grand statement on my part: just a Christmas present that is in the current rotation.

My first album of 2013 was played at 0130 so I can't remember what it was. My first album of the daylight hours was Alan Parsons Eye in the Sky on vinyl.

    Kansas - Masque

No particular reason other than I was going to play it yesterday and didn't get a chance.

Skin by panic room-what a fantastic album. Never got round to listening when first released but I've played it twice today, it's a real step up in class from their last album.
